Would it make sense to have a column for torque per volt? The Makita is 40v right? And the kobalt 24v. While the Milwaukee is 18v.
@TorqueTestChannel
2 жыл бұрын
Volts alone dont mean much. The 36V Makita (40V max) could be running on less watts of power by only drawing 10 amps for 360 watts of juice at the motor. The Milwaukee could be drawing 20 or 22 amps for more watts total. It'd be like instead of looking at engine displacement you only used piston bore to compare engine size.
@wearsjorge55
2 жыл бұрын
Without getting into the boring details of my electrical course, all you gotta remember is as voltage goes up, amps come down (less amps required to run higher voltage appliances). This does not mean that higher voltage is better, you can easily get the same power output for different voltage appliances you just have to compensate with more or less amps(alot more too it than that but its the simple way to explain). Sorry for the poor explanation its hard to not get lost in the jargon. The tool companies going to bigger motors that require more volts (24v, 40v, 56v) is more or less just marketing rubbish at the end of the day. There are great benefits to bigger motor tools and it'll likely be what the companies push on us next but don't let it fool you into buying tools you don't need.

I love your vid’s, but something you have to consider when talking about value versus torque is the durability, which you seem to skip over in your analysis. No matter how you slice it these Homeowner brands just don’t tend to hold up in the field, and it may be fine and dandy spending $100 less to get a cobalt versus an actual quality impact wrench, yet when you are back at the tool store of your choice buying another impact because the cobalt you bought fell apart, you’ll realize that it isn’t a big deal to save $100 to get a crappy tool in exchange. And as far as the homeowner front goes… If a homeowner is well-off, they can buy a quality tool that will last a lifetime, and if they’re in a pinch they can go to Walmart and buy a hyper tough or hart item, destroy it and then take it back to the store after their project is done. The only value in the value to durability quotient is picking from one extreme end or the other, either throw out the cash to get a high-quality item that will last for a very long time, or by the absolute bottom of the bin garbage disposable junk because you only plan on using it for one project anyway. I know the channel is called torque test, not durability test… But it would be interesting to see all of the brands lined up in a destruction test to see which one fails the first, because I think that if people realize these tools are junk and fall apart, then they wouldn’t view them so highly.😅
@TorqueTestChannel
2 жыл бұрын
Durability testing on camera is a fools errand unfortunately. The only way to get any of these tools to fail would be to use them in ways they would never be, sorta like PF does sometimes just to get those results. We've even sent Amazon brand impacts to viewers who are trades people for the last 6 months to try and do this on the worst possible stuff and no deaths yet. This tool is 1 week old on the market. To assign some type of durability score to it would be kind of silly. If you think professional tool brands like DeWalt or Milwaukee are inherently more durable I suggest looking at our last M18 impact driver video or tuning in this Sunday :P

I’ve had my original Kobalt 24v 1/2 impact for over 5 years now. Date code to prove it and the fact that there are no decals left and the tool is about as rough as it can be shows the use it has gotten over many techs in the 2 shops I’ve managed. It still works, it has been retired to my house as I no longer work in public shops but it has been soaked in every fluid on a vehicle and dropped on every square millimeter of its body from above head heights from a lift. The kobalt line up is insanely tough. The only failure I’ve had was on the 3/8 impact where the trigger failed about 3 years in and Lowe’s swapped it out under warranty same day. Talk all the shit you want, but these tools are proven time and time again.

I bought into Kobalt 24V when it first came out. Most of my tools have serial numbers under 500. The two issues I've had over the years of use (professionally) were minor. The chuck on the hammer drill get's sticky if you don't keep a little oil in it. 3-in-1 or similar light machine oil works. Otherwise they get stuck. I've probably driven 50,000 or more screws with the 3/8" impact (not XTR) and it still works. Only issue is that the LED burned out. All the other tools have worked great. I really aught to get a sponsorship from Kobalt with amount of their tools I have. Like a walking advertisement when I work somewhere. Edit: I also have Milwaukee, Bosch, and DeWalt cordless. As far as I know, you only test Impact Wrenches and stuff, but I am curious if you would test other cordless tools too. Like for example REMS Cordless Press or a Viega Pressgun, compare how much force they apply while "pressing"

I'll take the Cobalt or even rigid over the Makita and the other more expensive ones because of the price. I'm just a DIY kind of guy, so I don't need the lightest thing out there. I just want to be able to take off my tires from my personal vehicle's, and hopefully the brake caliper brackets when I do my brakes 👍. I do have a Makita XDT15RB impact driver and drill combo and they were very expensive when I got them. But I like them because they are small. Yes, in that case, I did get the more expensive stuff indeed. I'm contradicting myself, but I was talking about the mid torque stuff, not the smaller stuff. Another great one! Right now it's a $150.40 for the Kobalt (battery and charger included) at Lowes.

For anyone that’s finding this video in 2023, until January this tool is on sale for 149 as a kit. Absolutely bonkers value.

I'm surprised Kobalt didn't do better. Shop Tool Review got it do break loose 1,000 ft lbs, beating the Dewalt 891 by 100 ft.lbs Here, the Dewalt beats Kobalt by 140 ft.lbs. Something isn't adding up, I'm wondering if STR needs to check the accuracy of his torque device.

Having seen that vid 1st we spent 3 days testing this tool vs many other mid torques we have on hand. All the numbers add up. All I can say is we did our very best here and the numbers we feel reflect the tool we bought

I think it depends on how you hold it. Shop tool Review does shows the dewalt breaking 800 much faster than his 700 attempt with the powerstack. I'd trust Torque Test methods much more.

@@MrRustedmetal I wonder if the LiOn torque gun Tim uses to set the torque on his fasteners is in need of calibration.

I daily drove this things bigger brother (the older "high" torque) in a busy autoshop for 5 years almost to the day untill the switch melted on me just a few days ago. If the new mid torque can match that performance or exceed it I will 100% be buying one for a replacement. Nice that I've already got the batteries too.

Please test dewalts dcf840 it seems to be stronger than any of the other cordless impacts 1/4 inch drive it really has the beans i’ve been working with it for about a year and it beats just about anything I’ve seen from dewalt I don’t know if it’s because it’s a cheaper option or something but would love to see it get thrown into a video

It would be nice if they would put out an XTR mod torque. That would really put the Sweat Beads on both Milwaukee's and dewalt's foreheads

Shop Tool Reviews channel had this thing removing a 1000 ft-lb fastener. Not sure if the coarse threads affected the reading but you can watch it.

The tool user community is getting anxious! No video yet from PF. Your videos are some of the greatest but we all are concerned that Todd might have fallen ill and not being able to release his scheduled test videos. Anybody out here who can give us an update?

Could you show a graph starting in the middle out to the right for tightening and out to the left for loosening? Then you can visually see how well-balanced the tool is.
