HOT DAMN. Been a Kobe fan since 2000, but only now do I fully appreciate the beauty of his post game now that I'm older and have higher basketball IQ. Back then, all I could see was the ball going into the basket. Now I see the amazing head/shoulder/eye fakes, the pivots, how he shields the ball with his body etc. KOBE IS THE BEST NON-BIG MAN POST PLAYER OF ALL-TIME

@@TheULMOnaut ummm, there's not many hakeem if u only look at kobe's fadeaway (but hakeem had fadeaway actually). the fades were more likely from jordan. yet, kobe did have footwork from hakeem, in form of a guard version. the spin, the shimmy shake. one of the kobe's signatures, which throw the ball to the board and put it back by himself again, also involved footwork in my opinion.

Incredible how ppl can throw out advanced stats (totally valuable and useful tool when contextualized w/ film) like TS% to discredit Kobe forgetting how diff the league is today vs the majority when he played and the scheme of that offense. This guy was giving you elite level efficiency out of post plays on crazy high usage and he was doing so largely without any schemed or designed switches. He was getting straight buckets on his primary defender straight out of iso, all while drawing consistent doubles . We’ve all seen the constant back and froths between Kobe and greats like Battier, MWP, Bowen, Prince etc. In today’s switch heavy/high p&r style spread offenses, imagine guys like Curry, Harden, Westbrook, Kyrie, Lillard on an island against Kobe fucking Bryant... No, he wasn’t always as willing as he should’ve been to pass lol but again, in his era, breaking down your man in the midrange WAS the best shot or at the very least made you the baddest dude on the court. Had Kobe came up like the guys we compare him too now w/ advanced analytics alone, how can anyone argue he wouldn’t absolutely dominate on both sides of the ball, much like we see Kawhi doing today? Imagine Kobe in place of James Harden for example. No shade to Harden who’s been EATING btw. You’re basically getting Kawhi Leonard w/ his offensive sliders slightly higher and defensive sliders slightly lower in place of Harden who doesn’t play much defensive (understandably). For Kobe to be as great as he is, he gets way too much disrespect and false narratives from the media and fans smh. Dope video, bruh ✊🏾

I would love if some of these bigger super freak athletic guards would spend a week with kobe learning how to slow down their game and make better decisions to make them more efficient for their team. We see Westbrook and Derozon start to post up players, and they get lost at times on what to do when someone is not letting them go to their first move. That drop step baseline works so often, I studied it and added it to my game and I want to say 9 times out of 10 the defender will lean to far towards the free throw line instead of baseline. It’s important to pay attention the footwork as well as this gets the defenders weight even further committed to the inside, just slow the video down and you will see.

Kobe is incredible and High IQ player. Notice the elbow (neither the right or left elbows) prevent any defenders from coming close to Kobe's committed attacks direction. Here the example I am saying: Kobe dribbling the ball with his left hand, his right arm turn to a 90° angle (which give that extra strength) with his right arm at that angle defenders will feel that hit from the elbow blow(s). This alone give him the space he needs to execute the committed moves or arsenals. Blows my mind I never knew this when I was younger.

I was a Kobe fan BEFORE he got drafted, and I'm still amazed looking back at this footage. It's been quite awhile since I looked at Kobe footage. Kobe's achilles heel in his career was shot selection. He simply did not give a fuck, and it would seem the more difficult the shot was, the more he wanted to shoot it. It hurt his efficiency, and ultimately hurt his overall scoring numbers. Take that one thing away from him, and his career numbers improve significantly.
