Thanks for posting this wonderful rendition of the best two-piano sonata on earth. I owned the "record" way back when and always loved the performance.

The first movement is one of the purest expressions of joy and merriment that it's possible to express on a piano. If you want to show someone an example of Mozart's genius, you couldn't go far wrong with this piece.

Do you have all the other sonatas for double piano or 4 hands? I used to watch them all the time

There are several four-hand ones, but to my knowledge this is the only sonata for 2 pianos that Mozart wrote. The four-hands are gorgeous, though -- I've played a few of them.

Perhaps because it seems like it's settling back into D major -- and then wanders off again. So Mozart haha!

Perhaps the best opening allegro I've heard: youthful, fresh, ebullient. I think they fast-walk the andante a bit, missing some of the poignancy that's in the music, but then redeem themselves with a wonderful spirited, joyful rondo finale. The pianism itself is most impressive, clean and very well articulated and coordinated. Overall quite a winner. Henry, thanks for this delightful post!

i just heard two sisters on it on the radio and it was better than this. I did not catch their name but it sounded russian. I think the 2nd piano is too much under the 1st in this interpretation and they're slightly too slow on the first movement which is evident on the delighful circle of fifths that sound mechanical here. This is not a piano sonata with piano accompaniement it's a sonata for two pianos. The sisters played sensationally, their pianism was more apt than this.

+uhuhuuuhhh It means that you hold down the right pedal of a piano with your foot which makes the sound ring out. Listen for it right at the beginning. It's not typical of Mozart pieces to have pedal. In fact, I'm not sure if pianos even had pedals back then, although I might be wrong.
