Thank you Curt for your excellent video. It helped me repair fully my original Kodak 850 Carousel Projector. I bought it new, many years ago and it still appears to be brand new. It was always kept in a projector case that I purchased for it. Thanks again for your helpful videos. !!

This video helped me fix our 40 yr old Slide Projector 📽️. I'm reviewing 1350 slides my father took in the 1950s- 1970s. Thank you! Just a couple suggestions. 1) you need the pick tools. 2) I didn't have magnetic 1/4" drivers...so I used tape to temporarily hold screws to socket until they began to bite 3) I struggled for over 2hrs trying to get the damn selenoid and shaft properly assembled. What I did was use a Dremel to cut and widen an opening in the metal housing above the selenoid. This gave me room to move the electric motor up and with special needle nose pliers set the new plastic + shaft into the slot. I at first did not realize that the plastic was flexible...then just pushed it in the slot and it snapped in. HURRAY! Agree this was a challenge...took me 2 days and about 6 hrs to do. I took my time & took pictures. I'm mechanically inclined but this was the most fidderly job I've done in years.

Thank you for the video. I almost had a stroke, doing the repair. Hardest thing was putting the Link back in the machine. My fingers are like sausages. The parts didnt fit , so i had to make the holes bigger. Then after it was together it wouldn't do anything. So i had to take everything apart again. Adjusted plate and now it works. Only it still sticks from time to time. Not sure if that is the machine, the carousel or just my repair. It took in total over 3hrs.

Got it done, but having the right tools would make it easier! Undo the twist tie around the wires to give you more room to maneuver the solenoid. The solenoid plunger certainly did not drop out by gravity, but eventually I grabbed it with tweezers. Putting it back together just barely fits if you get it on the diagonal. Installing the 167348 Gear (the gear next to the focus motor) was very tight. I tried pliers, woodworking clamps, and tapping with a hammer. Finally, I measured the shaft and then used a 13/64” drill bit and slightly enlarged the hole of the plastic gear. Then the gear nicely slid on. Maybe these hints will help someone. Have fun!

Thank you for this video and for the repair kit. I repaired my non-advancing 760H today and it works great now. The hardest part for me was installing the focus gear - had to hammer it harder and longer than I expected but it eventually got on there. I considered widening the hole like another commenter did but there was really no way to remove the gear once I got it started. The second hardest part was finding a hemostat tool - discovered they carry them at Auto Zone in the US. This job could not be done easily without one. Now, to tackle another unit with the opposite problem - it won't stop advancing slides!

Years ago I used to service many dozens of these projectors. The place I worked at had a contract to service all the 35mm equipment for the National Parks Service (NPS) west of the Mississippi. Common problems were/are: Bad focus motor and or gear(s). Bad focus shaft gear (will start slipping and can't move the lens). Bad solenoid and/or solenoid link. Bad clutch spring (broken or weak). Index lever springs broken. Mech lever for Indexer needing adjustment. Worm gear eggs out on bottom of shaft (pull the mech and replace worm, and worm shaft if worn). Bad bushings on top of worm and/or fan. Fan egged out at bottom of shaft (replace fan). Motor bad (rare but saw it now and then). Belt(s) worn or broken. Thermal fuse blown. Remote socket board at rear of unit broken. Heat absorber lens missing or broken. Condenser lens missing or broken. Lamp socket broken. Video was interesting as I've never seen (or tried) to fix a solenoid link while the mech was in place! Since I was servicing units under heavy use and had to warrant them, I generally did a full service to them which meant I pulled all the guts out and fixed any of the problems found above. Most of the time the units I worked on needed worm gears, worm shafts, fans, bushings, belts, solenoid plunger/link, clutch spring, full clean, lube and adjust.

The kit was awesome. The autofocus is a little slow even with the new gears. Anything to do to make it run faster. (You may want to tell people that you need to put in a slide to test it). As a follow up, I'm blown away how good this support is. During the pandemic, we were able to project the slides on the wall and display it via zoom. Made a great bi-weekly get together with the family. The slides haven't seen the light of day in 40 years. Thanks Kurt!

I DID IT!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Getting that solenoid link in place was mind numbingly difficult at first but the more I messed with it the more I got a feel for how to maneuver it. And I didn't hit the auto focus bulb. The forceps and the spring tool are worth their weight in gold on this job and I'm glad I bought them. All the other tools I was able to make due with what I already had. I really can't thank you enough. The kit, the instructions, the video. Now we can watch slides again!

Hi Curt thank for a great video and printed instructions on the repair of my 760H projector. almost everything worked perfectly. I have two other issues not really covered by the instructions. One, the reverse does work but not Continuously. I need to keep pressing the reverse button to back up one slide at a time. But it reverses fine other than that. the adjustment doesn't seem to affect that aspect. Two the eject button does not work. the mechanism seems to operate, but the lever that movers out of the way so the tray can be rotated manually doesn't move quite far enough. My 760H is a bit different the one you use for the video. One, it uses the Kodak motor. Two, the power cord is permanently wired to the projector through the accessory compartment. I also have 140 size trays. Any suggestions for these two issues? Thank you Larry

Hello Curt, your video is extremely helpful. I wished that I had seen it before I attempted to repair my 760H. In the process, I damaged the gear that mates with the auto focus shaft; at the end of the shaft opposite to the end where you typically replace the gear. Can that gear that I damaged be replaced? I successfully replaced the focus gear (thank you!) but still have trouble with the slide dropping, but not staying in place. You see the slide for a second, and it goes back up into the carousel. Before attempting to replace the solenoid, can you tell me if that might fix my problem? It isn’t clearly broken, but I didn’t venture too far down the solenoid path. I don’t want to inadvertently create yet another problem! Thank you!

Excellent video! I got to ‘plug in and test’. When pressing advance button, I hear motor strain but there’s no movement. A 1.25” long spring fell out when I opened the case. I can’t tell where it came from - all the obvious springs are still in place. Machine was stored a long time, started to work but began speed advancing and then wouldn’t advance at all and lamp went out. Please help!! (I posted this before and it disappeared.)

BTW - the other thing that doesn't work (and I'm not sure if this was a problem before the plastic solenoid piece broke) is that the select button is stuck so I can't push it down to let me spin the tray around. The video is awesome, much better than any of this other ones that I found online.

Hello Curt: I have installed the non-advance repair kit, I believe successfully. When I plug the projector in and turn it on, it still does not advance. The manual buttons on the side of the projector and the plug-in remote make no noise or do not cause any effort from the projector to activate the mechanical components that I have repaired with the gears and the slide pusher/solenoid. Is there a way to diagnose and repair and electrical problem that may be causing my problem? I should have noticed that this was the case before I took the trouble to replace the gears, but since they were in bad shape, it may not have been for nothing. I would really appreciate your help, or possibly referral to a KZitem video to diagnose any non-advancing electrical issues. Thanks very much! Robb

Video and paper instructions were great, and I somehow managed to avoid bumping the auto-focus bulb - though at times I almost despaired of getting the solenoid to maneuver inside the tiny space. One question: I have an old Craftsman 1/4" socket set with nut driver attachment, but my sockets don't quite seem to fit around the screws in tight spaces. Do you have a recommendation for thinner-walled sockets or nut drivers? thanks!
@65CJ5
4 жыл бұрын
I have a really old 1/4" driver from Xcilite. It had a very thin wall on it and I could access all the 1/4 screws with it. One with a thick wall will be harder to use. You'd have to look at several and see if you can find one with a thin wall.
