So so incredible that Japan can made the train go that fast 64 years ago. And that was just 14 years after the war.

Aviation engineers during World War II transferred to railroads after the war. In particular, they contributed to reducing the weight of trains.

If only the engineers were smart enough to not put the emergency backup generators for the Fukushima nuclear power station at sea-level. But hey, we got Walkmans and earbuds!

Japan is just not just advanced but much more than that, really amazing after looking at these trains even now ❤️🗾 日本はただ進んでいるだけでなく、それ以上のもので、今でもこれらの列車を見た後は本当に素晴らしいです❤️🗾
Yeah, it's fast, but most importantly, she's stylish as hell!

Most fascinating how it was recognized then, that the track was the limit to further speed increase, and quickly led to the development of Shinkansen. For comparison, countries like Germany built their high-speed network mixed into the regular rail network, which limits performance until today.

The limitation of the narrow gauge (1067mm) had long been recognized in the interwar period. They had even started the precursor "Bullet Train" project in 1940.

What a pointless statement!German rail system was already at standard gauge! No need to change this; and of course German HS lignes are integrated with the existing network. Otherwise would be pretty stupid. Japan had a narrow gauge rail system. As Shinkansen uses standard gauge, the two networks are necessarily separated.
