Translation of the Three Sacred Treasures Team ending, according to the Japanese version.
Now that Shingo’s “Origin of the Flame” manga is out and the color of the flames of the Yasakani/Yagami will become relevant again, we’re sharing this translation of the ending of KOF’96, which was one of the first times we saw Iori using red flames, to his surprise and ours.
The game’s official English translation had some noticeable shortcomings and this dialogue in particular suffered because of it.
*Concerning Iori’s “blue flames”: In the 90s, Iori’s purple flames were described using the word “aoi”, which means “blue” and was translated as such, regardless of the fact that the fire was purple in the sprites and most official art. Over time, people started using the word “murasaki” (“purple”) and synonyms of “lilac” to refer to his flames. Nowadays, it seems both colors are used interchangeably.
