Koh Chang is one of the largest Thai islands in the Gulf of Thailand, characterized by its dense, steep rainforest. Mu Ko Chang National Park, a protected area with hiking trails and waterfalls such as the multi-tiered Klong Plu, encompasses the interior of the island and extends to the coral reefs off the island. The coast is home to many beaches and villages such as Bang Bao, built on pillars. Hat Tha Nam, known as "Lonely Beach," is a party beach popular with backpackers.
