Thanks! You’ll have a blast, I’m sure. We are back in Chiang Mai now, but we stayed at the Crystal Bay Beach Resort which was not a really great hotel, but we sacrificed luxury for a location right on the water, and saved some money for excursions and fun things we did instead. When you’re there, I’m addition to the things in the video, make sure you go to a Mexican restaurant called Cabezas Muertas! It’s a little Mexican place, and the food is SO GOOD! The owner, Greg, is an awesome guy and grills up some incredible food.

This is not an only mummified monk. There are a lot across the country. It only happened to very pure and very good monks for the remaning to become like this. For buddhist people, we are taught to be aware of death because it's unavoidable. Everything always being born, live and die. Even when you feel happy, the feeling starts, lasts, and ends. These remaining monk bodies show you to be aware of the end of your life.

@YaleWall
Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Make sure you subscribe because we’ve got another 20 Thailand videos that we’re going to release every couple of weeks. We actually flew from Chiang Mai to Surat Thani and rented a car there. It’s only a couple hour drive to the Don Sak terminal where you drive on a ferry that takes you to the island. It took a bit longer than renting on the island, but it was WAY cheaper and let us see another part of the country.

Thanks for watching! We rented a car at the airport in Surat Thani, and took the ferry over. We drove our own car everywhere except for the four wheeler excursion because it’s in the middle of the island and the ride from the hotel was included.

Loved the video. Its fun and very informative.I have plans to visit Koh Samui soon and coincidentally booked Crystal Bay resort. I read very mixed reviews that service is not good, some people said maintenance is poor and there is smell in washroom. Would you kindly advise how was your experience staying there?
@YaleWall
Жыл бұрын
Glad you loved it! Honestly, those reviews are kind of right, but it was worth it for us to be that close to the water. We spent very little time in our room, so it didn’t really matter for us. The only other places on the water are either very similar to Crystal Bay Resort or are way more expensive.

For a Westerner like you guys, seeing the body of the deceased monk/monks in standing, standing, or lying posture, dried like mummified, is a very wierd, stunned or even disgusting thing but in fact the Buddha often taught his followers to always ponder or reflect opon death so that he or she doesn't live their lives with carelessness but with intelligence and deligence and understand the nature of compounded things including our own bodies which are subject to decay and eventually death and not to cling to anything meterially or spiritually. Some temples even put skeletons in their meditation rooms for monks and general people to reflect upon.
@YaleWall
Ай бұрын
That makes sense. As a Christian, we believe that a body is just a body, but our souls live for eternity. God is perfect, and we are not, so we are all bound to be separated from God in hell because our sin separates us. But, God paid the price for all of us to be saved if we want personal relationship with him, and then we can be with him in the afterlife. So, we speak about death a lot too, but the body means much less to us than the spirit.

I was also in Thailand the last three weeks, but as a Christian I would never visit false idols like Buddha. But thats my opinion. I loved the creation from God there
@YaleWall
Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, I totally understand your reservation about visiting temples or idols that don't line up with what you believe as a Christian, but I would offer up this perspective for you: There is a big difference between being around idols of other people's worship, and joining in yourself. Throughout the New Testament, Christians often went into synagogues, temples, and religious places to tell people about Jesus. Actually, in Acts 17, when Paul was in Athens, he even used an idol "to and unknown god" directly to tell people about Jesus. If we stay out of other people's places of worship and don't lovingly hear them out and share our perspective, we miss out on being able to introduce them to the God of the Bible. You do what you feel comfortable with, but I would encourage you to step into other people's worlds without joining in, in order to love them where they're at.
Thanks! We all had an amazing time exploring Thailand! Still have many more Thailand adventure videos to come, so stay tuned for more!

@YaleWall

Yeah, it really was amazing. There definitely are a lot of mosquitoes, but it’s not overwhelming. I’m usually a mosquito magnet, but simple spray seemed to keep them away from us. It’s also worth noting that we were there during the rainy season which might have made a difference.
