I would never cut the box sides open to remove the toilet base. Not cutting open the box, allows you to repack a defective toilet and bring it back to the store much more easily. I have seen people bring back toilets to a store, only for it to slid out of it's box and crash to the ground, all because the box it came in was all cut up and put back together with tape.

Nice overview. People will debate caulking vs. not caulking the base. My suggestion is if you do decide to caulk, leave a gap at the back and perhaps even a small one (1/2") at the front to allow any water that should build under the base to escape.

Great advice! And yes, I have received comments on this video about not caulking around the base. However, if doing it to code, people need to check with the local ordinances...our county building code requires that the toilet be caulked...other counties might not require it. It is always best to check with the codes first. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment 👍.

Thanks! We just installed our Kohler Highline Arc Round Bowl Toilet. Really nice flush, quick, quiet. The only difference we had was that we took out an existing toilet. Yuck. But, after area was cleaned up (wasn't really that bad) everything went in perfectly, per your video. When installing the toilet seat, there were these 2 small pieces, that looked like bumpers for the toilet seat, that we could not figure out how they were meant to be used. They looked kind of like boats from a game of battleship (Ha!). Anyone have some thoughts, feel free to let me know. Probably so easy, I'm over thinking it. Anyway, great video, thx again. The next toilet will be a lot easier!

Hi! Thank you so much for watching the video and leaving a comment, always appreciated! I think I know exactly what those ship looking parts are that you are talking about. They are the two rubber bumpers that go on the inside of the toilet seat lid so that there is a cushion between the toilet seat and the toilet itself. If you lift up the lid you should see two spots to put those in. I thought I showed that in the video. I apologize if I missed that portion. 👍

Where is the water in the tank supposed to stop at? Ours does not go all the way up to the top of the float. Is that ok?
@YouCanDoIt2
10 ай бұрын
HI. Thank you for watching the video. The water is supposed to stop at the edge of the overflow. If it stops below that mark, it sounds like it is a float issue. You may have to wiggle the float to ensure that it is not stuck anywhere or adjust the float itself to ensure that it lifts all the way up so that the water can fill the tank to the top lip of the overflow hole. I hope that this information helps you. 👍
@GodisGreat-p2s

It wasn't stuck. I just had to adjust the float. I couldn't see the line on the float without a flashlight. It sort of blended in. It is now going up to the line where it should

Can you mention why the water inside the bowl is so low
@YouCanDoIt2
4 ай бұрын
Hi. This is a water saving toilet and will have less water in the bowl then the older toilets. However, you should have a good amount of water flowing through the bowl while flushing, so it clears the bowl of waste and toilet paper. If you are not experiencing that, then you might need to check your water intake line coming into the back of the toilet to make sure that the valve is all the way open. I hope that this information helps.👍

Without going in to a lengthy message. Please research why or why not to caulk toilets. The main reason to caulk is for sanitation.
@on4acres

@@ottomatic7823 I believe the main issue with caulk around a toilet is it hides a potential leak. If there is a slow leak it will not be noticeable with the caulk.

Thanks for this! I just had this installed and was a bit concerned when I saw the black washers between the seat and the tank. I do have a question, I checked the level on the tank and it is not level. I am NO plumber so I don't want to go messing with it myself, would it be a problem if I just leave it? I'd guess it's off by about 1/8".
@YouCanDoIt2

Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment / question. The issue I would say with not having the tank level, is that it may not fill and / or drain properly. You may want to take the lid off the tank, and do a couple test flushes to see what it looks like when it is filled and whether or not water is constantly trickling over the spillway. Also, if one of the bolts is over tightened, creating the off level tank, it could cause issues with cracking if someone sits down and puts pressure on the tank while they are doing their business 😊. You may have to loosen a tank bolt or tighten a tank bolt in order to get a level tank. Hope this information helps!

@@YouCanDoIt2 Thanks for your quick reply! The plumber did have an issue with the water running non-stop after a flush, he called his associate and they fixed it after a few tries (by adjusting the screws on the top?). It is flushing and filling correctly now. He did mention to me about not over tightening any bolts, so that is a good sign. Thanks for mentioning about putting pressure on the tank when someone is sitting down, I didn't think about that! I will ask him to check the level of the tank and the possible over tightening of a bolt, he is coming back tomorrow.

Update... I asked him to check the level and he did, it was off, then so was the seat, then he checked the floor... the floor is on a slant (55 year old apartment building, with old tile under new tile (because of asbestos in the original tile's compound) so that solved that mystery! The toilet itself is secured well and I cannot jiggle it at all. Thanks again for all your help!

It's a standard wax ring. It's ok...but not the best. If you are wanting something of better quality you could go with Lasco, Fluid master, or Danco these are top choices. Hope this information helps 👍

Is it easier installation applying seal to bowl or flange?
@YouCanDoIt2
10 ай бұрын
Hi. Thank you for watching the video. That's a great question...I would say that people probably have reasons for doing it either way. I put the wax ring on the toilet so that I know that it is perfectly lined up to the toilet outlet hole and that I don't accidentally smash it and possibly plug up part of the toilet outlet hole if I were to put it on the flange instead. Hope that makes sense 😁.

@YouCanDoIt2

Hi Jerry. Thanks for watching the video. That's a great question and depends on what sealant you are using. Refer to the guidelines of use on the tube. Some require only a few hours before the sealant is set and ready for use, while others require 12 hours before use.

To use Teflon tape on compression threads is an industry no~no. The threads make the seal, tape gets in the way.

The toilet doesn't come with the hose, does it?
@YouCanDoIt2
Жыл бұрын
Hi Ryogain. That is a good question. I don't know of any toilet that comes with the supply line. Toilet manufacturers cannot guess how far away your toilet is from your supply valve. So, they will not include the supply hose. There are many lengths available at the big box stores. You need to find the one that will do the job for you without being too long or too short. Hope this information helps 👍
