We have two Kohler Katun faucets in our boys' double vanity bathroom. One of the faucets always had a weak trickle that garnered so many complaints whichever son was using that particular sink. Carl, we found this movie today and it was a lifesaver! With your awesome video, we were able to remove the pink plastic restrictor. Once reassembled, the sink now works GREAT and our boys are singing your praises. Thank you so much for posting this movie as it was incredibly helpful and perfectly tells you what you need to remove that pesky water restrictor. Cheers!

OMG! This worked for our Kohler Cursiva faucets too! Our flow had dropped to barely a trickle on both sinks. Kohler had us check incoming water pressure, told us to remove/clean the aerator, sent us new valves, etc. None of that worked because that little pink flow restricter was the problem. The hardest part was grabbing the restrictor but if you have needle nose pliers, there are 5 little nubs on the restrictor. Grab one of those to get it out. Note, for others, you can do the process in place without removing the whole faucet from the sink but I appreciate you did for the video so we could see inside the faucet more easily. My wife and I thank you immensely!

Great video,THANKS! I took mine apart to try to fix low flow rate, but was reluctant to remove the flow restrictor for fear of possibly causing a leak. I'm going to pull it out now after watching this. EDIT--Two points: 1. You do not have to remove the silver screw on top of the cartridge. It's only purpose is to give the handle retention screw something to seat on. 2. You may still have low flow after removing the pink flow restrictor. Remove the supply hoses from the shutoff valves and check/remove the screens inside of the hose fittings.

Jp, I have this faucet and as beautiful as it is, I would have never bought it if I realized, even with Kohler's flow suppressor, how the curve of the faucet makes the water hit the pop-up drain & splash all over the counter top. Then it causes scale to form on the base of the faucet unless you dry it off after every use. AARGHH. It's just a poor design.

Thanks for posting, i've bought 2 of these and returned one because of the lack of flow - it was worthless. The second one was just as bad so I followed your procedure, piece of cake! I might add - my flow restrictor was completely gunked up full of crap from the factory, with it removed the force was way too hard and caused splashing all over the basin and counter top. I would recommend cleaning the restrictor out good or even request that Kohler send out a replacement (this is unacceptable that they ship new faucets this way). With the clean restrictor the flow is good. Edit: I have been in contact with Kohler Customer Service and found out that this flow restrictor is NOT a servicable part (according to them), meaning that they will not send or even sell you a replacement. That is absolutely rediculous and would recommend a different brand.

This faucet came out in two revisions per Kohler's website. I don't know if this is the other version but the sizes for the allen hex wrenches you will need to work on it are 5/64 for the aerator at the end of the fixture and 3/32 to remove the handle for the job shown. 2.5mm is close to 3/32 but I don't think mine was metric, either this is a version that's metric or it was close enough where using the wrong tool fit closely enough to get by.

Altogether it took me less than five minutes of actual disassembly and to reassemble the parts to get this little filter out. I did not see much of a substantial increase in flow however it may be restricted a little bit more by the filter screens where the flexible tubing connects to the water pipes.

@manictee

There is no other place where sand and dirt would be filtered out except at the source. Your water company should make sure that your water is filtered and within safe drinking standards. If you are on a well water system then you would have a filter system installed to keep your water clean. The gunk you see in my filter is from the original installation, I made sure to flow water through the tap after installing it, to ensure the water was clean.

Hey Carl! So glad I came across your video! You called that piece a filter, if that’s removed does it: 1) affect and warranties 2) mean that it’s not filtering? Thanks in advance!
@manictee
3 жыл бұрын
A1) I am not qualified to speak to the warranty of the product. You would need to contact the manufacturer for clarification on that topic. A2) To the best of my knowledge, it is a low flow inhibitor. It does not filter the water, the junk you saw in my low flow inhibitor was from when I glued the pipes together and the left over was flushed out into the inhibitor. If you wanted to call it a filter it only filters out solid material which should not be in your water system to begin with. But you could take it out, clean it and put it back in if you wanted.

TLDR: I took the restrictor out, decided I didn't like it, put it back in, and it worked as it should. (possible I lost the oring: kzitem.info/news/bejne/06KL1YCBhnlnppg) a) restrictor out, warm pressure is double hot or cold alone, which bothers me. hence, adjusting it at the valves doesn't really work great. b) after re-assembling and running without the restrictor, I put it back in, and to my surprise, it was working as it should have been out of the box. enough flow, not a trickle, but you won't get the whole bathroom wet washing your hands. I thought people were exaggerating about this and just complaining about water regulations. My brand new faucet was literally a strong trickle, though. It was definitely not running at the intended gpm of the faucet. I have a different brand with the same GPM that is a perfect amount of water for a bathroom sink. Anyway, somehow, that did the trick for me. hope this helps. :-) Good luck!
