IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOURSELF TIME - READ THIS NOW!!! - everyone is making this far harder than it has to be - INCLUDING AND ESPECIALLY Kohler. The TRICK is finding something to apply pressure evenly and UPWARDS on the collet (WHITE PLASTIC PIECE INSIDE THE COPPER CONNECTOR) while pulling in the opposite direction on the black hose. But there's no need to look any further than THE BIG, HEAVY BLACK WEIGHT that hangs on the black hose. That's all you need. Slide the black weight all the way up to the collet and apply pressure and then pull like crazy on the black hose. And it will pop off. Worked for me. After 90 minutes of screw drivers, pliers, vice grips, etc etc - lost in the comments here (thank you author, I'm not sure which one of you mentioned it) was the mention of using a 'weight' which I didn't follow at first. Promise - you won't even need to take it out off the counter top. You may need a bit of WD-40. May need to twist the hose first to free it up. But this 'trick' should work for 99% of you. Good luck.

I spent hours trying to remove the collet connector from underneath the countertop before discovering this video. It’s impossible without having the proper leverage. You need to pull the entire assembly through the countertop and perform the replacement from above the countertop. It’s fairly easy once you realize this. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the video, Ben! I can vouch that using the weight against the collet while pulling down on the hose works like a charm. Replaced my hose this morning. Took about 10-15 minutes for someone with marginal (at best) plumbing skill. I did not have to twist or use any WD-40 nor did I have to detach the faucet from the sink. Just steadily increased my pulling under an also "busy" sink. Faucet was installed 5.5 years ago. I did notice that there was a small zip tie on the hose that I had to cut off before I could slide the weight up against the collet. I thought the plumber had just left it there accidentally until I saw that a new zip tie came in the new hose package. After cutting it off I marked the position with a silver sharpie and put the new one in the same place. It seems to serve the purpose of keeping some tension on the hose during operation by preventing the weight from just sliding all the way down and becoming useless after you've pulled the sprayer out. BTW highly recommend placing a moisture detector at the back of the cabinet under your sinks. Totally forgot it was back there until my wife heard it go off one day wondering what the high pitched alarm was. It might save you from catastrophic damage to the wood if you're around to hear it.

Had to do the same exact thing because my nozzle hose was leaking. Read different reviews to give me ideas of doing it besides pulling the whole assembly out. I sprayed it with WD-40. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. I was banging around the attachment to loosen up any sediment that may have encoured inside. When I try to do it under the sink you have to be a contortionist. Due to the angle and the edge of the wood stabbing into your side. I laid down a blanket and folded it three times. Laid on the blanket. I grabbed the weight that holds down the hose and pushed it up against the Colette and pulled the hose down at the same time. It came out no problem.

Pulling it out of the sink made a huge difference, though I admit to not having read the comments so I didn’t try the great idea of using the weight. For me though, the inserted end was really “bound” to the collet, and I ended up having to use a vice grip to hold the collet down while using another plier to grab the exposed brass (not silver) part of the end and twisting/pulling to get it to finally release. Didn’t seem to damage collet, replacement part is snug and doesn’t leak.

If you cannot remove the white plastic collet. I’d recommend taking the following steps: 1.) Most important, buy the replacement, Kohler, Collett and black O-ring FIRST. Amazon. Cost was two dollars and one day delivery... Wait until you have it in hand. Kohler Part # 1186675 ‘Collet Service Kit’ 2.) Then… give up on trying to remove the old one without breaking it, just use a pair of needle nose, pliers and pull off the old collet connection. It takes a couple of minutes, but once you get a hold of it, you should be able to break off both ends of the plastic collet and wiggle the hose connection out of the copper tube. 3.) Remove the plastic pieces AND remove the old O-ring from inside the pipe. 4.) With the NEW collet…. Insert the black O-ring inside the pipe gently. Slide the collet over the end of your hose connecting piece, and insert the whole thing into the pipe until you hear a click.

Didn't you notice that you never showed the disconnect? That's was the most important thing to show! UPDATE: I was able to disconnect the hose while I was under the sink. I read comments of many videos and noticed that most of those who were successful used the weight that's on the hose to bang against the collet while using a LOT of pulldown force on the hose. Many also used a spray lubricant, which I'm sure would help, but I didn't need it. Just pull really hard on the hose and always keep the the tension on the hose while alternating between banging the collet with the weight and pushing up on the collet with your fingers. Never ever let up on the tension on the hose during the process because the connector will reset every time you release the tension.

This guy skipped over the most crucial part of his video. He never shows how to disconnect it. Absolutely ridiculous.

@fordm7 you're right, that moment is missing; sorry about that. It would be a better video if I had been able to capture the moment when it disconnected. I was working solo w/o a tripod, and after a couple hours of trying different things, I put the phone down to use both my hands at that moment, and then I didn't know I had reached success until after it had happened (and it happened quickly). Then, because this faucet connection is particularly frustrating, my amateur video now has a ridiculous number of views, and the algorithms tell you it might be useful. So, there you go. Bottom line: a job that was practically impossible under the sink became straightforward with a simple twist in the space above the counter. Sorry again that moment's missing in the video, and I hope you're able to get your parts to disconnect. Check out other comments for additional help. Sincerely, this guy
