IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOURSELF TIME - READ THIS NOW!!! - everyone is making this far harder than it has to be - INCLUDING AND ESPECIALLY Kohler. The TRICK is finding something to apply pressure evenly and UPWARDS on the collet (WHITE PLASTIC PIECE INSIDE THE COPPER CONNECTOR) while pulling in the opposite direction on the black hose. But there's no need to look any further than THE BIG, HEAVY BLACK WEIGHT that hangs on the black hose. That's all you need. Slide the black weight all the way up to the collet and apply pressure and then pull like crazy on the black hose. And it will pop off. Worked for me. After 90 minutes of screw drivers, pliers, vice grips, etc etc - lost in the comments here (thank you author, I'm not sure which one of you mentioned it) was the mention of using a 'weight' which I didn't follow at first. Promise - you won't even need to take it out off the counter top. You may need a bit of WD-40. May need to twist the hose first to free it up. But this 'trick' should work for 99% of you. Good luck.

Agreed. Push up on that black counterweight hard against the white plastic collet simultaneously pulling down on the hose and it will release. It took me about one minute of struggle. Didn't do anything else. No WD-40, no other tools. That hose had been installed for about 10 years. Thanks for that tip it was huge

So, I got it off from underneath. One note of caution: In my case, the collet was shredded, with no teeth left. This is a <$2 part, from either Kohler or Amazon. Again, in my case, since I didn't know that in advance, I ended up ordering it rush from Amazon (still faster than Kohler) for a total of ~$5.50. A bargain when the sink doesn't work overnight. Once I had the new collet and o-ring, literally a 15 second fix. Do yourself a favor and order a new collet when you get Kohler to send the new hose.

Sorry you had to sacrafice your time for the rest of us. Thank you though!

I spent hours trying to remove the collet connector from underneath the countertop before discovering this video. It’s impossible without having the proper leverage. You need to pull the entire assembly through the countertop and perform the replacement from above the countertop. It’s fairly easy once you realize this. Thanks for the advice!

Saw the comments here and used the weight. Pushed the weight up to the connector while pulling the hose down. Came undone in a snap. Happy it’s done but annoyed at how easy the new method was. Why couldn’t they have put that in the Kohler video.

Helpful. I used a groove joint pliers without removing the faucet to push up the white disconnect as I slowly pulled the hose. I was done in 5 minutes

Thanks for the video. Fortunately, I read @John Caban’s note below and his trick of using the weight to push the collette up and disconnect the hose worked like a charm. I suggest you try this first, and if that doesn’t work, follow the instructions in the video.

OMG! I am a gal DYI person. I could NOT get that silly collet connection to release while struggling in the tiny confines under the sink. Once it was on the top of the counter it was super easy. Your video was just the ticket! It was so easy once I had space and leverage. THANK YOU for saving me $$ by NOT having to call a plumber... not to mention my DIY pride.

going through the same hassle right now. I like these faucets but man these engineers and or product designers at kholer need to design better customer friendly parts. Thanks for the video

You made my day. Thanks. My dad taught me to buy/install new connectors whenever fixing plumbing - so, glad I did. Destroyed old plastic piece of collet connector before watching your yt vid. If only I read/watched directions BEFORE working on projects. LOL; but, again... BIG THANKS.

Thank you for this video. My Kohler sprayer also leaks, I didn't know Kohler replaces these hoses, so I bought one from Amazon. I was going to attempt the replacement, & thought I'd check you tube for any tips. I'm so happy to have found your video. This will probably save me a lot of frustration, & swearing. Thanks again!!
@jatimmonsjr
The plastic knob you referred to is a zip tie that is designed to keep the weight at the correct place on the hose. Good vid. Thanks.

Thank you. I was under the sink for an hour (cursing) before searching for "disconnecting collet" and found your video.

UPDATE-- After watching this video, I decided to give it a shot. Everything went perfect! I am SO happy, because before I saw the video, I called a local plumber, and was quoted $250. Thanks again!

Thank you! I was able to get it from underneath with leverage on a channel locks. The key was to twist left. If you just pull down, nothings going to happen. Twist to the left, give it a little play and a good pull, and walla. 5 mins.

Ben, you are a lifesaver! This saved me a LOT of time. :)
