Hi Gary hope your well, yes the printer looks very interesting thanks for the demo!!

I’ve been on the 3d bandwagon for a few years, fmd is great for wargaming terrain, modeling tools, paint stands, etc. I’e found LCD/DLP/SLA resin printers are better for scale modeling in most respects. Enjoy the printer!

Personally i think the end result for 9 hours printing was not something many scale modellers would be satisfied with. Also for that print quality the price seems ridiculously high when you can get an entry level resin printer for the same. I know resin isn't as user friendly but i would say far more suited to scale modelling

Maybe someone will send me a resin printer to compare it with...(fingers crossed!!!)

Amazon in the UK do this printer for £270 plus delivery, about £60 more than Gary's link, which seems to be shipping from the US? There is also one £125 plus shipping, presumably with less facilities hence it's less than half the price. The cheap one is rated 3.1 / 5 after 13 customer reviews, but the Kokoni has no customer reviews yet. Caveat: I have no connection to Amazon and only mention them as the first retailer I thought of. BTW regarding shipping into the UK, there will be an additional import tax added by Customs, and last time I bought an item from the US the Royal Mail also add their own cost for an import above the normal shipping - not sure why they did that.

I didn't quite understand the issue between the sizes of the models except that one was high definition and the other was medium definition. If you can't set the size of the model accurately then I see this as a major issue. I have not looked into 3D printing but I guess I would be using it to make more detailed parts for my models, so sizing would be very important.

I think it's one of the settings in the print menu, if you are printing to a specific size you need to check it before sending the file to the printer.

I would guess that the reason is actually that you used supports for the high detail model. They probably took up more space on the build plate, which caused the software to scale it down so that it fits.

How do you go from a CAD program such as Sketchup to the G-Code to get your design printed? You spend a lot of time doing the CAD and G-code generation, but as you say, you can start a print when you have your Horlicks and it will be ready with your full English breakfast. One day I'll resurrect my Prussa i3.

You export from the CAD program in a common file type such as STL, load it into your account at Kokoni and then the phone can pick it up and send it into the printer. I'll be doing this in part 2 of the video. I'm trying to learn 3D design in Fusion 360 at the moment - I want to make a 1/24 scale F24 camera...

The hardest part of making a success of 3D printing, or even desktop CNC, is learning how to work CAD. It's a full time exercise. You won't have anymore time for modelling. You played with the printer this week and you were supposed to be putting the hovercraft together!

@@markadams5462 I know - remember those variety acts that used to have plates spinning on tops of poles? I'm like that, but I'm on a unicycle and the plates are on fire while someone attempts to shoot an apple off the top of my head. But I will build the hovercraft!

Gary i think you covered this but I'm thick!! Is this the carcinogenic resin?
@garys_stuff
10 ай бұрын
No, it's PLA which is based on lactic acid, ultimately plant derived. Of course, the filament will include dyes and flow improvers, plasticisers and so on to make it work - just like the polystyrene we happily sand away at! Ultimately everything is carcinogenic in high enough doses, but plastics like ABS emit much higher levels of ultra-fine particulates (UFP) and volatile organic compounds (VOC) going through a 3D printer than PLA does. There's plenty of background research available online.

@garys_stuff thanks Gary. Sorry you probably did say that. You're right that anything can be dangerous in sufficient volumes, but some 3d materials are highly carcinogenic.

Could be to do with one of the settings - like whether or not to have supports. But there is a step in the print command where you can check the final size if the dimension is critical.

Wow, Gary, the fact that there is no proper software except for using your phone is a security violation of your phone and probably has now been accomplished! a direct attack on your phone's online safety. If I were you, I would back up your phone, do a factory reset, and re-install your backup. I have been using a 3D printer for a couple of years and to be honest for about 200 quid, I would not go near this printer, I am, not being critical of you or the printer, I am only stating plainly obvious stuff about the use of printers and software. good work and I hope nothing breaks for you.
