Nylon locking nuts get worn out the more you remove them kind of designed to be left in place. I guess could replace it once in awhile with a new one.

hi, do u know which material ,sizes and thickness kolb mark III have used in wing main spar, tail boom and struts ?

3/8 inch wrench and 10mm nut, one of those is wrong.

Good catch, Ryan! The bolt and nut are the same gauge, obviously. The tools I used weren’t perfectly matched, but in practice, a 10mm socket works well over a 3/8 nut if cranking it hard isn’t required. If I’d had a long 3/8 socket, I’d have used that. I used two washers, because the threaded portion of the bolt wasn’t cut far enough to allow tightening of the nut in this application without the extra spacers. Glad to know that after a number of years, people are still finding this video useful/interesting. I created it to help the buyer of my Kolb get acquainted with the aircraft. I was in Florida, and he was in British Columbia! The plane was delivered in a truck. My preference would have been to have him present for the demo, but he was unable to travel. Hey Martin, if you’re referring to the tail assembly, I can only refer you to the designers at the Kolb company. Feel free to contact them with your interesting question. They’re good folks! My personal opinion is that the short length of the four horizontal stabilizer cables minimizes the disadvantage of increased drag, when compared with the cleaner flow over a strut assembly. The obvious downside of struts is the weight at the end of a pretty long boom tube. That represents quite a bit of moment.

@@Sabbatical100 I agree, plus the struts will have greater frontal area than those four thin cables.
