The Konnagar Brahmo Samaj was established in 1876 by Shiv Chandra Dey, a Young Bengal activist. Dey donated land for the welfare of the place called Konnagar. Sib Chandra Deb was a prominent leader of the Brahmo Samaj. He joined the Brahmo Samaj in 1843 and established the Konnagar Brahmo Samaj in 1863. He was also the first President of the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, established in 1878. The phrase Brahmo Samaj literally means the society of the worshippers of the One True God. The first Brahmo Samaj was set up on January 23, 1830. Since then, Brahmo Samajes have been built all over India.
