Koorma jayanti 2024
#Koormajayanthi #Kurma_Jayanti 2024:
Kurma (Sanskrit: कूर्म; Kurma, 'Turtle', 'Tortoise'), is an Avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu.
This year, In North India Kurma Jayanti was marked on Sunday, May 15. Kurma, which means a tortoise in Sanskrit, is the second avatar (incarnations) of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The Hindu community celebrates the festival of Kurma Jayanti to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu.
In this incarnation Vishnu is associated with the myth of the churning of the ocean of milk. The gods and the asuras (demons, or titans) cooperated in the churning to obtain amrita, the elixir of immortality.
Lord Vishnu took the form of a Kurma and went deep inside the sea to carry the Mandara mountain on his back. Thus, by enduring the weight on his back, Lord Vishnu ensured that the churning of the ocean takes place without any hurdles.
#Kurma_Dwadashi is one such auspicious vrat in which Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his Kurma avatar or tortoise incarnation. Kurma was the second Avatar of Lord Vishnu that is related to Samudra-manthan. Kurma Dwadashi falls on the day after the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi vrat.
Special Note: #Dwadashi is especially suitable for the worship of the sacred #Tulasi tree (Tulasi stava of srishti khanda of Padma Purana), much like Ekadashi is especially suitable for the worship of Vishnu. In fact, the Ekadashi fast is a three-day fast, starting on Dashami and concluding on Dwadashi.
For us and in the far east, the turtles shell was a symbol of heaven and the square underside was a symbol of Earth. This meant that the turtle was an animal whose magic united heaven and Earth. Contrarily in the countries of west, early Christians viewed turtles as a symbol of evil forces during war and has tried to sow the same thought in their colonised countries.
For us the Tortoise is symbol of help, prosperity, unification, and all positivity.
