I love you Ethan, but you're still approaching the socialism conversation with Capitalist principles. For instance, you asked "A business owner who defaults on the loan can lose their house is that the same for the employees." In a socialist society your home is guaranteed. Also "Companies run at a negative for years" but thats AFTER paying out to workers. It's not like the workers don't get paid in a company technically not making money. The reason companies like Google and Spotify run at a negative is because they're cooking their books and "investing" in other avenues to eventually make more money to also not have to pay (as much) tax on those reinvested profits. In a socialist system the workers would have say in those reinvestments.

With peace and love, I think it is better for Ethan to revisit the socialism convo when he's done some digging and reading into theory and examples of socialist practices and history. He's basing a large chunk of his viewpoint on random shit he's seen on twitter or in the subreddit and it's polluting what *could* be a reasonable worldview. He's never going to be anti-capitalist, and it is what it is. He's a business owner, we shouldn't expect him to be anti-cap. But if he's going to engage in these convos, he needs to do it from an informed point of view, which he has not up to this point. I look forward to more dynamic convos in the future on this topic, but for now, it's becoming insufferable.

Chat shouldn't have been so cruel to Zach about the Taylor comment, but as a swiftie, I do wanna explain it a little bit. Many of Taylor's ex's are not hated by the Swiftie fandom at ALL, (taylor lautner, harry styles, tom hiddleston etc.) If they end amicably then there's no issue. Zach is NOT a misogynist but what he was saying is usually considered to be a misogynistic take. Like Ethan mentioned, Swifties are tired of hearing that "Taylor ruins the lives of every man she dates" when that simply isn't true. Even the ones Swifties DO dislike, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhall, etc, are still employed and doing fine as far as I know. Zach I love ya, no homo. And great job to Olivia on the PowerPoint as always!!

Obviously, every artist draws upon about their own experiences in their work. In my opinion, the difference with Taylor Swift is that she leaves all these Easter eggs and hints to directly show you who she is talking about in her songs, then the fans send hate their way, and she has never really condemned her fans from sending hate to people to my knowledge. Yes, no one's career has been ruined, but the minimal anonymity about the subject (I know she says she doesn't directly name drop, but "Dear John" and "Style"? Come on, now!) does set her work apart from many other artists. The hate in this aspect is definitely overblown, but writing off any questioning of this behavior as "misogynistic" is silly to me.

Ethan, I love you but PLEASE read about some of these questions you have concerning socialism. Dan and even Hasan aren’t going to be able to provide all these answers, but they are all available. For instance, your question about how companies would be set up is difficult to answer because you’re starting from a standpoint that a society needs companies that are set up in one way. We don’t currently have that. Also, you talk about socialism like it’s a sweeping change or revolution that would be top down. The reforms are instigated by the needs of the people. And regardless, there are solutions to these questions, but please read about it! Also, with peace and love, your question about workers being hired by someone who assumes risk via staking capital isn’t a gotcha because 1) a capital owner losing capital due to a bad business venture does not die, they just go back to being a worker like everyone else. 2) Cooperatives are either set up by workers with their capital, bought in to by workers, or the ‘risk’ is shared by workers being paid in literal ‘shares’ as part of a wage. 3) in a more socialist society there would be better insurance for initial funders/risk takers that start orgs because the state would have the ability to provide this. There are also other reasons but this comment is long enough. Please just find this info, it is out there! Even if you end up not agreeing, it will only strengthen your case for your current understanding. Cheers my dude

I haven’t watched all of their conversations on this because work has been stressful and I’m not completely in the mood to listen to it all yet. Most content surrounding this that I’ve seen is between people who are on complete opposite ends of the political spectrum and don’t actually want to learn from the other person. I usually avoid those types of videos because the conflict makes me anxious which is what I’m trying to get away from when listening to KZitem content lol. For people who have more political knowledge, I can see how this would be frustrating. I feel like that’s the hardest part to explain to uneducated people bc they are all focused on how “that wouldn’t be possible to implement all of this stuff immediately” when that’s not what the theory is saying 😭😭 just like how if a country was socialist you couldn’t naturally transition it to capitalism overnight but that’s not what anyone is saying or claiming. Honestly all that most American socialists want are social safety nets at this point 😭😭

@bobanoda there are 100% people who want a socialist system right now and are upset with Ethan over it. Ethan is already an advocate for social safety nets (still capitalist) and people (probably a loud minority) want more. Which is strange cause Ethan is admittedly apolitical and doesnt really have power (except over his own company, but his employees are happy and cared for aldy so)

Its just too awkward for a boss to ask any employee about changes that they believe are right. Especially when that boss starts to disagree or doesn't like the answers.

what? Dan is a producer on the show and won’t be fired. He’s been with them for over half a decade and they’ve had lengthy political discussions on air before. The topic of employer-employee relations and pay might be awkward sometimes of course but it’s refreshing to see it being talked about openly and that should be normalized. If Ethan’s questions are answered in depth and elaborated on, I can totally see Ethan implementing of changes in his company making it more socialist

@@ESTcor yes, i agree with you. ethan just needs to shut up for 2 minutes and actually listen to the answers. he's such a stick in the mud sometimes and also has a little bit of a complex being the boss

@@ESTcor Where did I ever mention Dan getting fired? People in the comments gotta start saying things that have nothing to do with my comment. Dan is fine. Ethan is fine. But it's going to be awkward for us and Dan to try to have that conversation when Ethan is being so argumentative about it. That's all. He's gotta listen if he wants to talk about it so much. But it gets to feeling like he doesn't want to talk he just wants to be right.

Can Ethan stop taking shitty shots at Tom? He’s already stated he’s trying his hardest to make interesting content and find his footing and Ethan saying comments like I think I got more views on Facebook it’s just so mean and unnecessary.

@@Plutonium.2 not just rich. a business owner of two successful businesses. I can imagine him thinking about how Hila would have to involve everyone in a corporate structure at TF as well and doesn't want to feel guilty over choosing not to do it. But that's super parasocial so idk. Like, I just see why it could be hard for him. But on the other hand, I live with my own cognitive dissonances too and you gotta find a way to make it work for you. Rome wasn't built in a day and I don't expect businesses to make these kinds of switches any time soon. especially not without clear-cut examples and some actual regulatory mechanisms. So I don't blame ethan for not socializing their businesses but like, why he gotta be so bad faith about it?
