After falling in love with mapo when I lived in Japan (because we lived near Yokohama Chinatown) I was so excited to learn to make it. Now I have a new take on it that I am dying to try. Thank you!

+0000000Lara Haha thanks... but eventually I think I'm going to have to switch back to my "normal" cooking, which doesn't always include Korean food. Coming up with all these Korean recipes was SO much harder for me than my other videos! It was definitely a challenging season.

I really became interested because I have small hands, and some of the bigger knives hand unwieldy handles for me to feel comfortable handling without my hands cramping. Do you think that will be a problem for me with this knife?

I eat a lot of tofu, so I'm surprised it took me this long to make a video featuring it. This Korean version of Mapo Tofu is spicy, surprising and scrumptious!

Chef Julie, this was so much better than I could have hoped for. I prefer chewy tofu, but this was so flavourful, I even enjoyed the soft texture. It did not knock dubu jorim off it's pedestal in my life, but it's a close second. Also I used Korean black bean paste as well, because I have it, and used two medium reconstituted shitake mushrooms. Thanks so much. Subscribed!

Looks delicious but if I need to use too many ingredients, I won't be able to make it. The recipe should be simple even if it means sacrificing a bit of taste. Some of the ingredients you mentioned here are either unavailable for me to purchase in my neighbor or too many to use. Please make simpler recipes.

Hi Chef Julie, I did your Korean Mapo Tofu yesterday and all we can say is “Wow” what a taste explosion it is. I sourced all the ingredients and in doing so have found a great new Asian Grocer. This recipe has such a depth of flavour, and is definitely a great winter warmer. Both your reactions at the end tell the whole story as to how good it really tastes. Can’t thank you enough for all that you do for us home cooks. The next one I will be trying is your “Spicy Chicken Stir-Fry” Dakgalbi. Also loved your blooper reel at the end, you are such a naturally lovely person. Thanks so much. Shane from Australia

What about Korean desserts 🎈
@ChefJulieYoon
8 жыл бұрын
+Critter T Did you check out my Hodduk recipe video? It's sweet brown sugar filled pancakes. It's a little challenging for me to come up with Korean dessert recipes that are easy to make. Maybe it's because as a culture, Koreans tend to eat fresh fruit after dinner rather than sweets and pastries.

Another incredible recipe - I mean, for real, if I were a restaurant I'd pay me to make this and recommend me to my friends! This is so unlike the Japanese version I used to eat in Japan - very gloppy - but that was in the 1980s, maybe it's better now? I remember buying a packet mix - instant glop! But I've also tried Chinese versions I've found on-line and they were, well, OK, but nothing more. This recipe is the best - I used ground turkey from the organic butcher - the flavors were fresh and clear, yet layered, rich and complex. I served it over 50/50 brown basmati and regular Japanese rice - such a rich, satisfying meal! The next time I'm snowed in I will make this again.

How spicy is it? For western taste? I do a version with LESS (much less) gochugaru and gochuyjang. Please advice!!
@ChefJulieYoon
8 жыл бұрын
+Maharat honestly... that's hard to answer because spice level is completely personal. I don't like foods that are unbearably spicy either, but this does have a kick. The Gochugaru is probably what makes it really spicy so you can cut down the amount of that. If you're scared, start off with less Gochujang and Gochugaru, and add more at the end if it's too bland.
