For those who questioning are they safe to eat or other ppl might have better recipes, those sea foods are much safer than hot dogs or chicken nuggets. Healthier and much more nutritious and never heard of some dying from consuming them. In fact if you are seafood lover, you wont find anything more genuinely taste seafood as it can be. You will be able to experience the sea itself.

I wish they did this in the United States instead of shopping markets. Instead of selling mostly imported product and meats we need to be buying and selling local.
@FeebleCatSoup
4 жыл бұрын
On paper it sounds awesome, but if we did local only there would be no variety in the food supply. Veggies that are out of season wouldn't be available at all and if no one grows certain meats like cows or chickens you'd be SoL if you wanted it. Any seafood would be out of the question if you live inland. Not to mention if someone did come to your town selling hard to get meats/veggies, you can bet your ass it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get. I'm cool with just having farmer's markets.

So basically "Meonggae" or Sea Pineapple as it's called in the west is like a watery saltier sashimi and it tastes very unique. It has a bite to it like conch but it's not fleshy. I mean it is a very interesting taste but it's not something you wanna eat all the time. People describe it as the essence of the ocean lmao.

These are ascidians (sea squirts) and they're animals that spend their entire lives attached to rocky substrates underwater. They feed by sucking water through their top siphon (the branch piece at the top) and filter the water through a branchial basket (a kind of mesh within the animal). Food particles are trapped in the mesh of the basket and are consumed while the rest of the filtered water exists, via their second siphon (located slightly below and to the side of the inhalant (top) siphon). Despite the fact that they don't move, these animals are more closely related to humans than snails, oysters, worms, insects, jellyfish or sponges!

This is Meonggae: Sea pineapple You may have seen this grenade-shaped creature, a fiery-red sunset color, floating around in tanks at seafood restaurants and fish markets starting in spring. You may even be a fan, slurping them down raw as soon as they’re sliced up. And if you’re not a fan, please let us try to convert you. Say hello to the meonggae (멍게, pronounced “mung-gae”), commonly called the sea pineapple in reference to its oblong shape and knobby protuberances. A type of tunicate, or sea squirt, it has soft flesh surrounded by a tough, leathery coat (like a tunic, hence the name) rooted to the sea floor. In their larval state, young meonggae have tiny vertebrae and tails and swim around looking for a surface on which to settle. Farmed meonggae larvae attach to long ropes in tanks before being lowered into open waters. Once they attach, they quickly lose their vertebrae and tails, develop tough skins, and then take about three years to fully mature.
@chir0pter

These are tunicates if anyone's wondering. A very primitive chordate (has a nerve chord, at least as a larva). I didn't know anyone ate them, they're pretty much like jellyfish

Living in the western world, most people have never been truly hungry. You can thank your government for that. ALLOT OF ASIAN COUNTRIES have let their commoners starve to death. When you haven't eaten in a week even the leather of your shoes and clothes become edible. It wasn't that long ago Chinese law dictated you could trade the dead body of your child with another, so you didnt have to consume your own child. The systems we have in place are the only reason you or I have never had to contemplate eating some random organism or an actual person. This is why i grow food, at bare minimum my family will get the vitamins they need in a crisis. Everyone should have a garden

I have eaten sea pineapple before but not mixed with assorted vegetables, instead, it was marinated in brown rice vinegar for awhile. The texture is not chewy but little 'bouncy', it has none taste itself so all the favor was from the vinegar. That being said, it has a very strong unique raw taste that can easily put away most of the people lol It was an experience but that will only be the time I eat it. Moving on! :D
