Korg DSM-1, 12-bit Digital Sampling Synthesizer Module from 1987. The module version of the mighty DSS-1. Well, not really. As we shall see in this video.

The DSM-1, with 4 times more memory than the DSS-1, a HD-floppy drive and 16 (!) individual outputs, lacked all the synth goodies from the DSS-1 while operating with a much more complex and cumbersome hierarchy of sub-modes made it bomb like a stone and Korg would quit making samplers for decades. Akai ruled the sampling world.
Today I would recommend the DSS-1 over this any day, of these two, even if the concept of modules has always had a magic spell on me. The DSS-1 just has more power in terms of sound, where the DSM-1 just falls flat. If it's just 80s sampling you're after there are many models from other brands I would recommend more.

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!
Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
