Good one. So many creative lovers of this great simple yet complex machine. Waiting on the Hirotribe to take it up a notch!

Very cool! I use an MS-20Kit to control my Monotribes, but with a twist. I use the usual Hz/V/Gate setup, but send the EG1 to both the gate and the filter cutoff mod. This allows me to have an attack/release on the Monotribe, but minus the click!

I just want to keep my Monotribe as close to stock as possible, but I do have the simple click removal mod installed.

This is awesome! I've been beating my head against a wall trying to get my keystep to work with my monotribe via CV and I just can't figure it out. Gate works for note on/off but I'm getting no pitch. I've done the calibration where you hit rec while holding C-4 and then C-5, but after saving I can never get pitch. Any help/tips?

By getting no pitch you mean always the same note or no sound? Are you using the proper TRRS (4-way) adapter? On my adapter Mic is CV and Phones is Gate. I'm using a couple of Korg sync cables (plain TRS) between the adapter and the Keystep. I also had some troubles at first, but once I double checked all the cables and connections everything worked as expected. Having a multimeter around (even a cheap one) also helps when working with voltages.

@@-VCO- Getting the same note every time. I'm using a trrs with the red white and yellow rca cables. I guess I might have to pull out the multimeter, but then I have to remember how to use it haha. So you don't have to mess with any settings on the monotribe or in the keystep midi control manager? I figured that's where I'd gone wrong. But I'm getting consistently the same result.

Looks like you're using a camera adapter, but the one that is known to work is the mic/phones splitter for smartphones: male TRRS to female TRS + female TS, all 3.5 mm. You need to set the CV on the Keystep to 1 volt per octave, using MCC, and also make sure that Gate polarity matches the setting on the Monotribe.

Positive polarity, 8 ppq on the Monotribe and the Keystep is set accordingly, using MCC. Edit: Sorry, it's actually 2 ppq, which gives 8 pulses per pattern at 4/4.

This looks great, now I am trying to do this with my beat step pro. But if I use CV pitch out of the BSP into the CV/Gate in of the monotribe , I only get tempo impuls, no pitch. What am I missing ?

Do I need update 2.11 ?

You just answered your own question. There's also a procedure to switch from Sync In to CV/Gate In mode, as described in the update's files.

@@-VCO- I have upgraded and see some progress. But still no pitch , calibration fails. I think it has to do with the cable. I have to find a cable that has 1 side trrs, that I can split to 2 ts connectors. Havent found it yet .

The adapter is probably the most important piece of the puzzle. I use the type that is used to split a smartphone 3.5 mm TRRS jack into two separate connections, for phones and mic. They are pretty cheap on Amazon.

@@-VCO- There are two types.signal splitters OMTP and CTIA. Both TRRS. I found another vid that explained how it should work. I ordered the OMTP , which should do the trick. It'll be here tomorrow I hope.

could you explain the setup, please! how do you connect with monotribe and keystep
@-VCO-
3 жыл бұрын
Keystep is set to "Korg" sync (2 steps per pulse) and 1V/Oct CV via MCC. Sync is set to external via switches. Monotribe Sync Out connected to Keystep Sync In. Monotribe is set to receive CV/Gate instead of Sync In and properly calibrated to Keystep. Keystep CV and Gate out connected to Monotribe Sync In via TRRS adapter. Tempo is controlled by Monotribe.

@@-VCO- would you be able to tell me how are "cv" and "gate" outputs called on the keystep? I think I'm too stupid for that, I only saw CV outputs - Gate, Mod and Pitch - am I missing something?
@-VCO-
2 жыл бұрын
@@Fantazicify I believe the one called "Gate" is self-explanatory. For the other one (CV), while "Mod" and "Pitch" are both technically control voltages, in this case we want to control the _pitch_ of the destination oscillator(s), so we choose the corresponding option.

@@-VCO- thanks! At first I thought it was specifically for the pitch wheel and wasn't able to find a clarification on that. I tried connecting it as you mentioned, with partial success - I was able to get the gate on some of the keys and, once or twice, I produced sounds of different pitches - I think it's a cable problem now, I'll try to get new ones today and try again.
