Young Ralf Hutter's speaking voice is one of the most melodious ones I've ever heard. Seriously ear-candy. On a more serious note: these guys in their late 20s sound like shy teens, but their thoughts are quite mature, and this incongruity creates a fascinating effect. In their struggling for words you can hear the group honestly trying to fathom the essence of their method and inventing, in real time, the international language to describe their music and philosophy, painstakingly formulating many of the stock phrases they would later rattle off with an almost automatic fluency. That's why I feel this recording is almost historically important.

+sivoxestcanta You also have to bear in mind that they are speaking in a language which is not their own. So, while it's true that they generally struggled for words when they speak about what they do (this also happened in German to a certain degree), this is amplified by the fact that they are struggling for words in a language in which they do not yet feel 100% at home.
@bradrum1

It is not their native language. So you would expect some shyness, so they may sound like shy teens , but that is what is lost in translation. That is a problem for not native speakers of languages , shyness can be exacerbated by the difference in language.

around 5:30, Florian Schneider speaks of the German "guilt" after WW II in 1975, 30 years after the war ended. Almost 50 years later, the guilt remains - and is passed on from generation to generation. He stated in 1975, "why should we (be guilty)". Florian Schneider was a very interesting man and ahead of his time, and so was Kraftwerk. May he rest in peace.

Amazing how these guys had a vision for what their music would sound like and the visuals they wanted to employ in the future . Equally amazing is how they realized that vision. Saw them for first time in Vancouver in 1975 in a small venue that held 2000 people. Never saw anything like it before and I have been a fan ever since. AUSGEZEICHNET!

I can remember radio stations having interviews like this in 60 s and 70s, not so much now in Australia. There are a few community radio stations that have these live interviews, most are content to broadcast crap.

I've listened to Planet Rock by Afrika BamBaataa since inception and always felt like there was something missing in its sonic story. In those days, albums told a story and it's obvious what I was missing was Kraftwerk! The producer for Planet Rock sampled many effects of T.E.E. and well, I hate I've missed out on their gems for all this time.

The sloppy interviewer unable to control the background noises in the first 1/3 of the interview is annoying; the ringing phone that no one answers and the laughing kids in the next room. No radio station would put that on the air, so it must have been cut from whatever the broadcast version of this interview was. Ralf and Florian are very tactful to ignore all of it and just keep answering the questions. Otherwise a fascinating if predictable dialogue, given all the mythology that eventually built up around Kraftwerk over the next 40 years.
