Hip hop? Yes. Not house music. House music came from and was basically what was called disco. Around 85 in Chicago they started calling that exact same music (disco) house music, but that was only because the old club The Warehouse played those same types of tracks. People would say, "That's a 'House' track," and withing a couple years that name (house) was worldwide even in New York. Those same type of tracks had been played in the New York clubs for over a decade and was called disco, but for some reason, the name house music stuck in the mid 80s. Kraftwerk has nothing to do with disco or what was later called House music. They were Techno. Yello, another German techno group, actually did have a track called Bostitch which was a legendary club track on the disco scene even though it wasn't disco/house.

Do you know how the genre house music got it's name and where it comes from? I'm asking you this because if you Google search this, it's not going to give you the correct information. You'd have to have actually been on the scene to know. I'll wait. If you have to Google it to get an answer, please don't dispute what I said.

I lived in Germany from '78 to '81 and rocked out to this over there...imagine my surprise when I came back and heard this played in the US of A! T.E.E., Numbers, Tour de France, all WAY ahead of their time...not only did they influence hip-hop, but other groups like Daft Punk might not have their sound without Kraftwerk (TRON:Legacy soundtrack, anyone?)

Louis Martinez In one of the mixes of Planet Rock, they even rap "Ichi ni san chi" at one point, showing they definitely drew from this. And from there, it was picked up by Planet Patrol, and several others, and eventually became the "Miami beat" when Luke picked it up. Never knew all of those words were numbers in different languages (other than the Spanish). Perfectly fit in with the height of the video game (arcade) era.

I was born in 1978. One of the first songs that I remembered as a 5 year old kid was numbers/computer world. My dad played jazz but he had quite the variety in his collection of records. I remember the bright colored album cover and was curious. My dad put it on the record player and wow, I was amazed. I'm 44 and still this song is one of my all time favorites. I've bought plenty of their music over the years but this song is legendary in the volume of lengendary music from Kraftwerk. To think these German dudes with this song alone influenced house, techno, break dancing, and even hip hop. To this day, Kraftwerk is still well sampled in a variety of different genres. Well deserved for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I remember back in 1981, I had a radio show at KUKQ-Phoenix...received the sampler for Numbers and immediately played it at full volume on a turntable. I remember the station personnel from KUKQ and sister station KUPD coming in and looking at me and the disc. The consensus was it was a great song " that would sound good on 'shrooms'". This was 1981...no one had ever heard a song like Numbers before. Or since.
