Hey everybody! First off, thanks for following the channel and clicking on this video. I hope your installs and purchases on this cooler go well. It has been brought to my attention that Gamers Nexus has done a video on proper orientation for radiator installs and pump position. Please watch it if you have not. I have commented my position and reasoning for the mount position used in this video, read the comments below. I will not be outlining every detail of orientation here, it has been said well by others. Please avoid these orientations while mounting your radiator. -BOTTOM MOUNTING OF ANY KIND -FRONT MOUNTING WITH THE PUMP HIGHER THAN THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR TUBES, IN ANY POSITION.(keep it below by a good margin) If these two items do not make sense, go watch the Gamers Nexus video on radiator orientation. If you are concerned about your build please comment below.

The orientation of the cooler is wrong if you're basing what Gamers Nexus says is correct. You have the tubes up, in which he clearly states to never have tubes up on a front positioned radiator. The tubes need to be at the bottom with the radiator higher than the pump on the front of the case.

@@scares3859 I installed my NXXT 53 with the tubes at the bottom. It did bubbling as Nexus said it would for about 10 mins and runs like a charm. The issue and confusion that stems from all of this is companies like NZXT advertise it wrong and even build cases that only allow it to be ran with the tubes up. I'll go with the science and video evidence of Nexus on how the poor circulation occured with the tubes up and above the pump. It will eventually lead to a dead clogged pump. Having the air trapped above the pump and not in the line at all is the best option. If you can, top mount, if you can't, have the tubes at the bottom.

Totally agree with the ease of installation and looks great). A little bit of info that might be of use for others watching: if doing a small build (mini itx or atx with limited fan headers) the kraken x53 ships with a power cable that has an integrated splitter. this is the cable that you want to connect to the cpu fan header on the motherboard. Then plug the pump header cable from the pump to the 4pin female connector on that cable. you can then plug the two (male) fans into the remaining (female) sockets on that cable. and allow you to use your sys fan1 (or 2 if you have that luxury) for the outbound airflow of your case...

I appreciate the question. I definitely should have spent a bit more time on wiring, since this AIO has more wires than most. That being said, you do not need all three of them plugged in for the pump to function. The pump is still the 3 pin connector. It's been some time since I put it in, but I believe the SATA is power for the RGB and logo, the 3 pin is power for the pump and the usb is control for the RGB through CAM. If you have an RGB hub that you want to use, or some sort of NZXT RGB system, you can plug in the fourth cable for control through that hub/system.

Sata is to provide power as is comes directly from ur power supply. The instructions say dont boot without both connected and that the usb is for led control and thus optional. Simple case fans for example draw enough power right of the mobo header but im assuming nzxt is saying the pump requires more juice than a fan header can provide hence the sata connection. Consider its pumping a fluid thru a radiator vs just spinning a very light plastic fan. When u use the sata or molex connection for a case fan instead of a mobo header, it just runs at 100% without any control as there is no data connection allowing software to control it. What power supply do u have that doesn’t have sata? That is very weird dude. U may have a bigger issue.

Thanks for the video! I actually just installed it on my PC yesterday the same exact way with the same exact case. Although, I noticed that most people have their tubes come out of the 3’clock position. I’m sure there’s no right or wrong way but after trying several positions during the install, I went with your positioning because I didn’t like the way the tubes sat on the GPU, possibly hitting the ram, and the wires being far from the back hole to feed the wires if I did put it in the 6 o clock. Was there a reason you went with that position.

Hey thanks for the comment, I hope you are liking the X53. It is probably my favorite AIO to date (I still have many more to test). I really just wanted to avoid the RAM, GPU and any other wiring I could. I know it makes for a little bit longer wire runs for the pump power and RGB. But I hardly notice those wires. I have had a few AIO's mounted differently and the heat from the tubes were sitting right on my GPU, so I use this orientation now. I think we were on the same page there.

He installed radiator wrong. Tubes need to come off cpu from side or bottom, and radiator has to be installed with tubes at the bottom. The closed loop system will have estimated 2%air in system for expansion and that air will naturally rise to the highest part of the radiator which if installed wrong with tubes at top or cpu with tubes at the top it will cause gurgling and the system will not perform efficiently. Love your content my friend! I have the same AIO cooler from three months now and I saw a video from Gamers Nexus saying about how NZXT was marketing their coolers and systems in the wrong position of the radiator. Stating that basically your installing and positioning the radiator in the wrong way. The tubes should be down if your putting the radiator infront. What are your thoughts on this? Looking forward your answer so i can try mounting mine differently.
@BainCustom

Hey welcome to the channel and thanks for the comment. I like the video and fully support his data, I agree that the majority of these mounting scenarios (especially bottom mount) just don't make sense and cause issues with the pump. Something I haven't done well enough is making that clear in my videos and the reasons why I still choose to mount my pumps this way. Let me just say that I would prefer a top mount, but the most popular nzxt cases don't allow for it. At about 18 minutes in his video he talks about situations in a tubes up orientation that still avoid air bubbles and supply good circulation. Even though it is not "the best" way it is a way that they advise if necessary. In my case it is necessary because of the gpu heat and tube length and my pump is below the top of the radiator. I know not everybody who watches this will have the same case. Anyways, I will be making an update to add for viewers to check out so my viewers know what NOT to do. I may change the orientation and track the results or just get a top mount case and be done with it! Thanks for the comment and thoughts.

Gamers Nexus, shows the correct installation. Tubes must be at bottom if vertically installed and tubes off side or bottom on CPU. There is 2% air in closed loop systems that will rise the you inlet/outlet tubes, possibly creating gurgling sounds and not best effective cooling.

Well, I listened to the very end, because either the pump is defective or I have installed incorrectly, as the CPU is running 90C+ with no load, and unplugging the cooler makes no difference. I will assume user error first. But a question - I don’t care about making the inside of my case look like a unicorn barfed on a disco ball, so I have no RGB hook up. I have a Corsair cooler on another machine and even though I haven’t hooked up the RGB on that either, the actual top / pump of the cooler still lights up. SO - do you know if that is the case with the Kraken? Right now I am seeing NO lights of any kind. But don’t know if that is because it is not working, or that there just aren’t any because I haven’t connected the RGB. Obviously, you can easily test this on your rig by just unplugging the RGB wire and seeing if there are still lights on the pump / top. Thanks in advance if you can/will advise.
@BainCustom
Жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. That cable is for pc control/data. So you will still get rgb with it unplugged. But if you turn on the pc and download the NZXT cam, you will be able to get more information about what is going on. I would say it is like the pump is not activating or on...or the cooler head is not properly secured to the cpu. Once you figure out with, either re-install or return/exchange.

Hello, I'm putting up an older gaming build from used parts but picked up a new kraken x53 for cooling. My intentions is to overclock a 4790k with a Z97 motherboard and cool the cpu with the x53. The motherboard is ASRock Z97 Anniversary from 2014-2015, so it's rather outdated, but I've seen many people watercool with Z97's. I have 2 cpu_fan headers and 2 chassis fan headers. I must've missed where you plugged in the radiator fans? From my understanding the pump gets it's tuning from cpu_fan and power directly from the PSU. Do the radiator fans also get power from the same cpu_fan header?
@vatu8D

Also, can I put the USB-C RGB wire to a regular usb header on the motherboard?
@BainCustom
3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I only touched on wiring for a minute, it was not too in depth like the rest of the video. That being said, the wiring is fairly simple. There is a 3-pin connection for the pump to the CPU header, the fans go either to a fan hub or a SYS Fan header. I would recommend a fan splitter for that. The Pump itself has SATA power and the 3-pin like you mentioned, but you can not use the CAM software for control of the pump without plugging in the micro USB to USB 2.0 Header to the motherboard.

Welcome to the page. I hope you find some good resources here. No matter where you install the radiator. It is best to have the fans pull in fresh air. I have 3 or 4 aio reviews. Here is a link to the castle 240ex that is white...might fit your build a bit better. kzitem.info/news/bejne/jqSb3YqgqHWkiaA

Do you plug in the fans on the radiator to cha_fan headers or sys_fan, or does it come with a y splitter?

I used sys fan. I don't believe it comes with a y splitter, I had an. Extra from my motherboard. But definitely buy one if you don't have a fan hub.
