The parole board is not influenced by whether the prisoner attends their parole hearing or not. They will either grant parole or deny parole based on what is in the most current central file of the prisoner. Many prisoners get paroled without asking for it or even attending their parole hearing.

@Deejaynext

..manson deliberately worked to control their minds, partly via the use of drugs. that could be the only legitimate defence line i think. however, as i said before, i think you would still need to be "predisposed" to certain types of acts to be able to commit them. this is demostrated by the fact that one of them couldn't go thru with these acts while others could. also, some were not on drugs. so essentially, i agree - perhaps i'm just taking her words too literally. but it's no defence, yes.

Because Krenwinkle finally figured out that the parole board has already made up its mind before the parole board hearing. The parole board reviews and discusses amongst themselves the most current central file on the prisoner before the hearing. Allowing the prisoner and the victims' families to attend and speak is a mere courtesy and really has no impact on the decision of the parole board. Many prisoners have gotten paroled without attending their parole hearing. Some prisoners were even shocked that they were granted parole since they never attend their own parole hearings knowing that it is fixed beforehand.

1978 Jonestown,Guyana,Waco 93 etc etc... Manson did nothing new. He used textbook methods and gained total dominance over the girls. That does not excuse what they did and it takes a very special person to be able to see that had it not been for Manson these girls would have never even thought of this much less act on it. Focus on the master not the minions. I would have to ask myself if it were my mom what would she want me to do. Carry around hatred for 40+ years or help the other victims too

marty dallas it’s not a manner of carrying hatred , Debra doesn’t hates these killers.. she wants them behind bars because Sharon is still dead . Why should these killers enjoy freedom when they denied life to 8 people. What right do they have to even ask to be out? Try were sentenced to death, then california repealed the death penalty communing their sentence to life with parole because they did not have life w/o parole - those people were put to death. By fluke of the law these killers got life with parole and the poor families every 2-5 years have to worry about them getting paroled. It’s like their loved ones getting killed all over again. Poor Debra now is fighting breast cancer. Her sister died from it, her mother suffered a brain tumor. Her mother and sister died and are buried with Sharon. Surely they died from the trauma of sharons death and facing these killers in parole hearings. Hopefully Debra wins her fight over cancer. Sharons family and the families of Sebring, folger, frykowski, parent have not gotten mentally out of that 10050 Ceilo drive home . , just as Sharon did not. Only justice would be is for Watson, krenwinkle, houton ( Atkins died in 2010) to be tied up by their neck by a rope and set on fire. Only then would they suffer like their victims.
@pammyoneto

Do you know what I have never understood? IMO...What does it mean? Thanx for your response BTW. Ultimately being under the influence of drugs and I include alcohol...can not really be a defence...ie drink driving springs to mind. So what Debra Tate states can not be brought into dispute then..would you not agree? Therefore it could also be an argument in Charles Manson`s defence. However I would not suggest that but a smart lawyer could perhaps?
@Deejaynext

one thing in debra tate's comments that definitely can be disputed is "nothing could make her or anyone do this" ( i'm paraphrasing ). if she was on drugs at the time ( i understand some were, some weren't ) then i believe it would be possible to murder when you normally wouldn't ( depending on the drug etc etc of course ). all i know is i and many i know, have done many things we regret, and many things we have no recollection of, including violent acts, while under influence of drugs.

Yes and no. I think if someone's life is at stake, yes they can kill in self-defense, but *no* I don't think we are genetically programed to commit murder unprovoked. It is one thing to shoot another who breaks into your home. It is completely something else to be able to stab someone multiple times...and even after the victim is already dead. Well life without possibility of parole is the law in many states now however that was not my point. Yeah the Tate-LaBianca murderers should be in jail for life in my opinion because it represents justice and retribution. There comes a time when you have to let go, harboring that kind of hatred is only hurting her. Jesus Christ said if we don't forgive others we are not forgiven. And I am sure that under the influence of LSD and crazy cults and God knows what else that people do things that they would never do under normal circumstances.
