We also witnessed at Punda a joyful reunion of 2 matriarchal elephant herds at the dam. It was fantastic to see. It was definitely the opposite of angry..We also saw the same once at Kumana dam. Its something you will always remember.

A couple of years ago we encountered a herd of elephants going down to the river at Shingwedzi when a vehicle came charging from behind right through the herd scattering them. An irate bull then charged at the stationary vehicle I was driving and I had to floor the accelerator pedal with an elephant bull filling all the rear view mirrors while everyone was screaming in the vehicle. There are daily commuters working for the restaurants in Kruger game camps and their minibus transport has absolutely no regard for either wildlife or speed limits.

I think the Punda ellies are more agro because they are not used to cars as much as their cousins in the south...Great episode !

Thank you Melissa! My (Stacy) theory is that because those areas are close to the borders they get more poaching. We have read a lot of posts of people seeing animals with snares in those areas. But when we went on a bush walk in Berg-en-Dal we spoke to the guides about the angry ellies in the north and they agree with you. They are a bit more agitated with cars than the ellies in the south because they are not used to cars 🙏🏼

We had a chat to some of the anti-poaching men in the north about the agro ellies. Apparently the Elephants move over to Zimbabwe where they get shot at. This makes them super agro when they see people in Kruger. My biggest fear on land is Elephants and Hippoes on the water. Nasty!

Thank you Shaun 🙌🏼 The Ellies in the North were very angry. We are super respectful of them and usually don’t get charged at all! My theory is that up North the Ellies are in contact with more poachers because they close to the borders 🤷🏽♀️ but that is just a theory.

What a special video. This is why Punda is my favorite camping camp. We also like to camp exactly where you set up your site. It has everything that you need, shade, view, close to ablutions. The Punda hide is a nonstop adventure.

Thank you Wendy! We absolutely fell in love with Punda. We were so sad to leave after our 3 days, it was way to short. Next time we will definitely stay there for longer 🙌🏼 and it was an amazing spot! We were very lucky to get it as Punda was pretty full around Christmas.

I have never found the elephants generally around Punda to be Angry only the odd frustated one in must . I have also observed that they can be aggresive towards game viewing vehicles like you were on. I got a lovely video of a young ellie that shoved one of a group of buffalos rather playfully into the dam at Punda.
