Description: The author of this song is unknown. A large number of sabdams were composed by the “Vaggeyakaras” of Melattur village of the Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu. The subject matter of sabdam usually consists of the life and praise of a particular god or king. Unlike the popular belief Krishna refers to King Krishnadevaraya(en.wikipedia.o...) and not God Krishna. Throughout the dance there is no reference to God Krishna, his flute or gopikas or any story related to Krishna. Vaggeyakaras lived around the same time as King Krishnadevaraya(early 1500's).
Gurus who have directly learnt from Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam have confirmed that this item was in praise of King Krishnadevaraya. Anyway if you have any facts either substantiate or disprove this please add it as a comment.
