On a cloudy mist filled afternoon, we drove through the erstwhile KIOCL Kudremukh mining, now the Kudremukh National Park. The last time I hiked here was a decade ago, and the phenomenal change after reduced human activity makes it a joy to see visible changes. Its enchanting to see nature take over after mining activities ceased here. A UNESCO heritage site, older than the Himalaya mountains, and one of the world’s eight ‘hottest hotspots’ of biological diversity. The forests of Kudremukh include some of the best representatives of non-equatorial tropical evergreen forests anywhere and are home to at least 325 globally threatened flora, fauna, bird, amphibian, reptile and fish species.
