Thanks for sharing the tips, Rinse sago pearls with hot boiling water, drain and divide into 3 equal portions as many asked us to soak the soga but didn't mention and even didn't reply when I asked as I followed her instrution and soaked the sago, after 5 mins I got a bowl of Sago water instead as sago is made from sago powder. You used boiling water to rinse the sago, it is cooked out side, so when we soak them in Pandan juice or any liquid, sago will not dissolved .

Dear MyKitchen101, can I add the Gula Melaka to the sago and steam together instead of adding it after steaming?

If you add Gula Melaka before steaming the sago won't cook through.

When I rinsed the sago with hot water, they formed clumps which were difficult to break them later when mixing them them with the liquid. Was the water too hot?

You need rolling boil hot water to rinse, otherwise the sago will break into small pieces into powder form. I use spatula to press down to separate them when mixing with liquid.

Hi, i just wanted to make this 3 layer sago. But i was shocjed that the measurement for the santan which you stated is 30g for the pandan layer, is it correct? Because when i tey to weigh the santan 30g is just like about 1 table spoon! Is this the right measurement? Pls let me know immediately because im starting to cook this sago kuih

Yes, that's correct, it is just a little, about 1-2 tbsps, 35 g for both pandan and white-blue layer, and 20 g for brown sugar layer. Coconut milk is just to adjust the colour of sago so that it is not translucent. The main coconut flavor comes from shredded coconut.

This is too labor intensive. You can just steam the layers together instead of steaming each layer individually.

The sago in the middle part will not be fully cooked if steamed at once.
