Kodaikanal #2133m in Tamilnadu is at the crown of PalaniHills and referred as "Princess of Hillstations". Reaching Kodaikanal on foot by avoiding usual hill road is a wondrous experience. The trekking trail starts from KumbakaraiFalls in Periyakulam town and leads to Kodaikanal's Dolphin Nose view point through Vellagavi. This trail is majorly through the dense forest of WesternGhats and rarely opensup to offer views of PalaniHills.
Vella-gavi in Tamil means "white-valley". This fittingly named village situated deep between the mountains has about 100 houses and can be reached by 4hrs of slow and steady trekking. Since the trail is constantly steep one can consider to spend the night at campsites in Vellagavi, soaking up every bits of nature.
The trail from Vellagavi to DolphinNose takes about 1hr 45min. DolphinNose is a jutting elliptical rock that opens into awe-inspiring view. This is one of the many famous tourist places in Kodaikanal and from here VattakanalFalls can be reached by 45min of walk.
