According to the wikipedia article “Death from Laughter” - which lists historical instances of people who have been reported as dying from fits of laughter - a man from King’s Lynn, England was said to have laughed at this episode for 25 minutes straight, resulting directly in his heart failure and immediate death. His widow later sent a letter to The Goodies, thanking them for making his final moments in life so pleasant.

"blackface" is considered racist in the US because the concept of the black and white minstrel show in the 1900's-1950's went on way to long to just be a joke. It has nothing to do with a one-off skit on a British television program from the 1970's

I didn't know the Goodies growing up, so I don't have any nostalgia for them. But after seeing this, while certainly a product fo its time and while there are things I find funnier, I can see why this supposably made a man die from laughter. There are some very solid principles of comedy at work here, and they're also excellently executed. I'll certainly check out more of their stuff.

I kinda see them as a later version of The Monkees, especially in their interactions with each other and the "romps", except The Goodies had more time to finesse their shows as they didn't have to crank out so many episodes in any one season as the Monkees did. I used to love The Goodies and it still holds up fairly well, but it creaks a bit around the edges. The short scene with Graeme in blackface would have to be cut if this episode was to ever be shown on TV again. I doubt they could ever broadcast the one about Rolf Harris in their celebrity safari park again either.
