A microscopic shrimp is the last living species of the South Aral Sea in Uzbekistan. KURT explores how it has become an opportunity for local Karkalpaks.
The story of microscopic, “magic” brine shrimp becoming an economic lifeline for communities surrounding the Aral Sea suffering a catastrophic environmental crises.
The communities of Muynak and surrounding areas of Karakalpakstan have recently seen great development of industry and jobs - as the valuable "artemia" has a high value in the aquaculture/aquafarming industry.
3-part series, Mission: Find Aral coming soon! We are looking for a distributor, please get in touch if interested.
