Every other artist looked to Dylan for inspiration because he was the complete opposite of the whole hippie movement even though people throw him in with people like that. He wasn’t apart of Woodstock even though he lived in Woodstock. I see Kurt the same way as Dylan. She had "Bi-polar disorder" and had been messing with her meds, NOT taking some thing and taking others. SO, IF Kurt had also had "bi polar disorder" as I had heard, it is VERY possible that, just like my sister, HIS brain had been in a state that he had been determined to end HIS life too. Sometimes, no matter HOW MUCH Kurt's family had been determined to try and help him get to a much better place mentally (as well as MY family tried to help my sister) sometimes the person has it on their mind to kill themselves. SHE lived in New York with her husband, and we live in Pa. HE was a BIG drinker, so, she had been dead for a while before HE had even checked up on her. When we turned over our assignment, our teacher asked him "Why do you look up to a drug addict?" And I caught myself thinking about this moment the other day, and it's so wrong. It's very wrong to just try to encapsulate Kurt as just a drug addict because he was so much more, and he also did so much more. He was a good person, not to mention talented and successful, and he stood for a lot of good things. I know, it's a double-edged sword. So much of why I wanted to put this video together is because so much of Kurt's memory is tied up in sadness. I don't want that to be all people think of when they think of him. Kurt was a full person. He was really funny too, amongst so many other attributes.

He always tried to make people laugh and be kind, even while he was struggling with depression, drug addiction, and his identity. I've noticed he and David Bowie are really similar in that sense. If I were to go back in time, I'd meet either one, because they both had a very unique way of thinking and writing songs. I think that's why Kurt covered The Man Who Sold The World, because he felt and related to what David was singing about.

I'm genuinely so happy you had the takeaway you had after watching this!

He actually wasn’t super deep into Heroin until the end of his life.....it’s kinda sad. He thought the whole “drug addict” thing added to his public persona/artistry, but wasn’t actually doing as much of it as he said. BUT, at one point he just ended up going crazy with drugs because people already thought he was doing them. He created a persona/Caricature of himself to help sell his music, but eventually became that person.
@paullayfield

A lot of heroin addicts are polite & somewhat decent people but just got sucked into some bad shit. They might steal change out of your car if you leave the door unlocked but they usually won't break your car window to get in & aren't typically doing violent robberies. Meth addicts on the other hand tend to not really give a fuck about having a victim. It's not always the case but it seems like heroin users do "victimless" crimes like stealing & pawning shit rather than armed robbery or something where they are knowingly hurting someone.
