I like this tune. I’m waiting on Jesus, but this world gets me down. It feels like a long wait. That’s what I think about when I listen to this song.

I can’t get over this song. So beautiful and vibey at the same time! And Cate LeBon’s background vocals and piano playing add so much to this song. What a gem of a track!

For someone with such aware lyrics it makes sense that he would consider deeper meaning. Anyhow, I pray for him - salvation. I’ll add his family to the list. Would be awesome to see him “up there” when the time comes.

@@JK-uo3pd I'm actually an atheist but i like/appreciate the ethics represented by Jesus. What i like about the song, among other things, is that Jesus represents kind and unconditional love which is extended towards people no matter who they are. i feel like it's the same attitude extended towards the figure of Jesus and what he represents, maybe even in the event a listener isn't religious or typically religious (which probably is increasingly common, although i think a lot of folk are at least agnostic). i think the songwriting speaks to the distance but also the appreciation, very roughly speaking. For example, "i almost want to claim him". It's this idea of Jesus as a mortal who isn't indefagitable (ie he can become exhausted, he's not invulnerable) and that part of the song seems more like a person who isn't a worshipper or believer contemplating the position of Jesus in the 21st century, rough times all around. i like that it's protective towards a figure of unconditional love and doesn't take what that unconditional love or the giver for granted. It gives back. At the same time, it doesn't start off with a worship relationship with the figure of Jesus, yet by the end of the song, it dares to hope for some kind of redemptive deliverence. Even for an atheist, in this context, this speaks to relief for humans from suffering from brutal, ugly chaos. And then, for the figure of Jesus, relief from mistreatment, resurrection. From the perspective of a believer, this is about the true meaning of Easter, at a point in time that has been buried in marketing. Even as an atheist, i appreciate this, and in fact i was thinking about it myself before i heard this. So i feel like as a song it can work for anyone who appreciates kindness. It extends the same unconditional love towards a figure who offers unconditional love but suffers, including in the event he is not automatically seen as a religious icon, but vulnerable. At the same time it can speak to what this time of year is supposed to represent to people who do practice the Christian faith, at a point it's barely recognisable in pop culture or subculture. i think it's interesting as a song because it sort of slips from a distant initiative to a quiet embrace of sorts. Like a reconnection without hyperbole. And it doesn't require that the listener be religious to be able to appreciate the gravity of unconditional love, of mortal vulnerability, of peace and redemption.

@@JK-uo3pd tl;dr i like that it's trying to give back to a figure of unconditional love that suffered in order to help humanity at a point in time that the messages he brought are overlooked and drowned out by marketing, and I feel like it's written in a way that this could be appreciated even by people who aren't religious.

I think this track and ''Hey Like a Child'' just prior represent the high watermark of this epic album. A lot to digest, I just finished the album and loved it, but it is a lot to parse.

I think he's gotten better lately which is surprising b/c as artists age they usually lose a lot of their special sauce, so to speak. He's phenomenal. I had a chance to see him in a small venue about eight years ago and I really regret not going. It was a long drive and while I milled around thinking about it he sold out. He's a lot more popular now. .
