Kuvva-i Milliye(National Forces) is the local fighters against the occupation forces after WW1, mainly against Greek Army in Western Anatolia. They fought with Greek Army, launched attacks to their military camps etc and Turkish National Movement under leadership of Mustafa Kemal Paşa gained more time to re-establish our regular army that was mostly demolished by Treaty of Sevres. They established regular army and called all local fighter into it. One of the greatest actions of them is this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karbo%C4%9Faz%C4%B1_ambush Greetings from Turkey to Swedish friends!

@@ongunyucesan8489 indeed, but Turkish forces fought against mainly Greek forces, which numbered up to 200-225.000 troops in Anatolia. British, French and Armenian forces in total was lower than this and British soldiers were controlling Turkish Straits and Turkish Army didn't fight against British Army at all. Because Greek Army was military wing of Allies and we defeated it in the battlefield. We defeated Allies in diplomacy, but Kuvayı Milliye wasn't participating in diplomacy. The ones who did diplomacy are called Heyet-i Temsiliye or Meclis Hükümeti or whatever. Am i clear enough?

@@kdrkfl Dear Kadir, in details we couldnt agree actually; We fought bloody againsts French and Armenians around 80 000 in south. At first Greeks were around 10 000 than 100 000; then 200 000. Northeast Armenian counts and Russian forces counts at 1915 is given as 200 000; Include these Russians and all; English Troops were 80 000 in Northwest; We have marched on all; English were smart enough not to open fire to an army that beaten all. Beleive that counts as fighting and winning; This has been crowned by Turkish Republic signed agreements of Laussane and Montreux

First of all, thank you for performing this beautiful work. "Kuvâ-yi Milliye" means the army of the nation. It first appeared in Anatolia in 1918 for the purpose of combating the enemies. Since the army of the caliph in Istanbul became dysfunctional, the duty of defense of the country was undertaken by the "Kuvâ-yi Milliye". The Kuvâ-yi Milliye, which initially consisted of armed civilians, became affiliated with the Parliament in Ankara after a while and became a regular army. Kuva-yi Milliye, from 1918 until 1923 the British, French, Italian, Greek, Armenian and Arab troops fought actively, it has played a huge role in the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.

Kuva-i Milliye literally means National Forces. Kuva-i Milliye were Turkish reaction against the invasion of Turkey by the Allies at the end of First World War. Invasion of Turkey immediately started by Great Britian, France, Italy and Greece after the Armistice of Mudros was signed between Ottoman Government and Great Britian, France and Italy. The word armistice means a cease of armed hostilities but they disbanded almost whole Ottoman Army and started invading Turkey. Civillian Turkish people spontaneously formed armed gangs in invaded regions and had no idea of each other. They used hit and run tactics against the invading militaries to show the resistance of Turkish Nation against foreign invasion. A handful of Ottoman Army divisions and regiments deep inside Turkey that were not yet disbanded by Great Britain started to support the National Resistance of these National Forces after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived deep inside Turkey on May 19, 1919. Great Britian ordered Ottoman Sultan to send a trusted general to not yet invaded regions of Turkey to put a stop to the rebellion of these National Forces / Kuva-i Milliye. Nationalist generals within Ottoman Ministry of War tricked Ottoman Sultan and also Great Britian that they can trust Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. They also needed a capable, talented and successful general. Ottoman Sultan sent Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to not yet invaded regions of Turkey. However, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk immediately started giving orders to not yet disbanded Ottoman divisions and regiments to resist foreign invasion - exactly the opposite of his duty. He also ordered those military units to support Kuva-i Milliye in the beginning. Then he organised 2 National Congress in Erzurum and Sivas with the representatives from all over Turkey and then he worked very hard to establish a National Parliament in the not yet occupied part of Turkey - in Ankara, which is almost center of Turkey. This National Parliament was called Grand National Assembly, now Turkish Grand National Assembly was founded on 23rd of April, 1920. Then Mustafa Kemal Atatürk organised the handful of not yet disbanded divisions and regiments of Ottoman Army -actually remnants of Ottoman Army- and the Kuva-i Milliye and created a regular army - Turkish Army which is now Turkish Armed Forces. He created Turkish Army almost from scratch. He organised and led the centralised resistance of regular Turkish Army agains all invading forces. The Great Assault -BüyükTaarruz- we call it was commenced against the last invading army, Greek Army on August 26, 1922 at Western Turkey. There was not a single soldier of foreign invasion armies inside Turkey on November 25, 1922.
