Looks like the turbo has failed, maybe the engine is OK, but the seals on the turbo are leaking engine oil into the intake.

it was a traction motor flashover. the smoke was caused by the locos worn out piston liners which have been since replaced.

The state of that engine it was going to fail somewhere with certainty. In the event it was a traction motor flashover on the rear bogie.

wow you must be a psychic! you somehow know the exact condition of the engine without even looking at it. The loco was smoking due to worn out piston liners which in absolutely no way affected the traction motor flashover, the flashover was caused by a driver from the KWVR putting the loco into High notch whilst at low speed on a tight curve, this caused exceedingly high amperage which was too much for that traction motor to take. please educate yourself before making stupid comments.

@@Ben-rg3rd TM went before the overloads..........usual fault on the 26\27\47 class that I worked on at Haymarket. Hopefully not too bad to repair and not needing a rewind. Usual repair (unless it needed a changeout) was a good clean and repaint with anti-tracking paint.

the loco was extensivley overhualed between 1997 and 2012. all wiring was replaced and nearly all components were overhauled Bar the engine liners (hence the smoke).

@@TheBurtonRam That's not what it looked like. However, its good they fixed it quickly. We had one of the motors catch fire here in the U.S. Teams were working on pulling the axle and motors the next day as well.

@@jamesmckenzie3532 it was a traction motor flashover, the other pair of motors 1&6 were out of use due to another fault which was luckily rectified allowing them to take over. the motor has since been replaced and overhauled and is now under 50021
