Fun fact about the ending shrieks; this song was recorded live in one take in the studio. They're belted in the studio, they're inhales live to avoid destroying his vocal chords (....again) .....except when they played this at Wacken, and Kyo was sick and they were having monitoring issues and Kyo got so angry he belted the final shrieks out an entire octave higher than studio.

The entire band usually changes into more comfortable clothes and/or tour-shirts for the encore but throughout the main part of the show they don't change [well, Kyo sometimes looses clothes on the way but that's about it ;) ] They dress different each show but they usually have a set of clothes for each tour. Each member has their own style so they don't care about a 'united' image [anymore] which means that sometimes some members look super casual while others are dressed up like they are not even from this world ^^. They basically all do whatever they feel like doing each night with the exception of recorded shows where they probably take a bit more consideration how to dress, especially because they use that platform to promote certain clothes brands [which is a usual arrangement with Visual Kei bands and Kyo as well as Toshiya have their own brands - also not uncommon within the scene. Some people in VK even start playing in bands because they want to be designers and that's the best way of marketing their cloths]. I am super excited for when you get around to sukekiyo and I can hardly wait for your reaction to The World of Mercy. That will we awesome :) Thank you once again for everything!

It's great to hear that the comments made you that much more interested in the band :) I'm a bit surprised there wasn't any gear commentary by passio who usually picks up on such comments. Toshiya is playing his custom made ESP D-TT in this video. It's the original bass he used to play while touring with UROBOROS, their seventh studio album. Most of Kaya's translation videos use footage from their "From Depression to...mode of [insert album title here]" Tours which they did around their 20th anniversary. They did an entire tour for each of their albums playing the original versions of most songs, used some of the old gear and even tried to visit as many original venues as they were able to (meaning the venues they played at for the original album tour). This song received an incredibly beautiful acoustic version in 2019 that they even played live to open their 2021 concert "SOGAI" at Tokyo Garden Theatre in 2021. I'm not asking this for a reaction or anything but if you have the time and if you are interested in that version here is a link (it leads to the live version because I think that one is really nice but the screen is very small and large parts are blurred. I think there might have been some copyright problems with uploading this so soon after the release. So you can just listen to it in the background instead of actually watching it): kzitem.info/news/bejne/wpCrvYFufJ-Ydn4

Dozing Green is great. One of the songs that I was able to introduce to a few friends cause funny enough, it was included in one version of rockband/guitar hero back in the day. I have seen some concerts when they changed between the first and second halves of the shows...maybe their Blitz 5 day tour? Cant remember...otherwise they might change just for the encore sometimes. Every tour is different though. Saw them in the states for their Ghoul tour in 2013 and Kyo had some amazing makeup and shawls shit going on. Great performance.

Awesome video, I love seeing Dir En Grey getting more exposure! And to answer your question about the costume changes the band(especially Kyo) has changed their look and aesthetic throughout the years. The band’s costumes were really elaborate and eccentric During their early years as a band but now things are a bit less crazy in terms of costumes, but still sometimes a member will do something that is pretty outlandish. I recommend y’all check out their live performances of Decayed Crow, Obscure, Red Soil, Different sense and if you want something from their old days I recommend Cage and ZAN

Dir en grey are an interesting beast indeed. A feature of the lives is that you don't know what to expect. Kyo is very interpretive at times, deliberately singing in character rather than giving a CD perfect "performance". This is my favourite, I will warn you though, it's dark and unsettling, but a different side of the bands on stage persona. The lyrics are particularly hard too. It's a two song progression that sees Kyo deteriorate. He's terrifying (the thumbnail should be enough for you to see) It finishes with Dead Tree. kzitem.info/news/bejne/x6lssY5pk5ZqeIY

Edit: I was wrong, the version published by Kaya is very good @@moshpitreactions a heads up though. Many people recommend this one, but one of the live recording you find of this song is also maybe the song he sounds the most damaged, as it was at the end of a long tour and before a surgery. It's a couple of years ago and his voice is good now, but I remember you reacted on that in Vinushka

Not true, he's ruptured a vocal chord twice. First time was 2000, he left it untreated and it led to an infection that almost killed him and left him deaf in one ear to this day (which is why you sometimes see one of his monitors is out), he wrote "Ain't Afraid To Die" in the hospital. Second time was when he had a nodule going into the symphonic show in 2011, he ruptured the nodule during Lotus, which led to the infamous 2011 Symphonic Decayed Crow performance which was the last song at that show, he went full "fuck it" and screamed so hard he blacked out, and ruptured another chord in the process.

I can't argue against what's translated here but I've heard the line that here is translated as "even you, crawling with your neck on the ground" as something about a flower growing from the ground (where the body eaten by bugs in the beginning of the song was) hanging its maudlin head and then presumably the flower is the one saying the "love me" line before he starts screaming. That translation makes the meaning of the whole song make sense to me (something along the lines of cycle of life), but I don't know how accurate it is.
