In the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto, traditional female entertainers have made a courtesy call on their dance teacher ahead of the New Year.
Entertainers known as geikos and their apprentices, called maikos, traditionally visit their teachers on December 13th to thank them for the past year and offer early New Year greetings.
On a rainy Friday, dressed in kimonos, the group visited their teacher Yachiyo Inoue.
During greetings in a practice room, Inoue offered her students words of encouragement and gave each of them a new fan to be used next year.
A girl named Mamefuji, who became a maiko this month, said she'll practice dancing more next year.
