I hear a lot of D50 sounds on this record. Nice to hear a digital-focused Synthwave album.

D50 is a great synth. I have a D550 and two V-Synths with the D50 option (the keyboard and the XT).

I have to say that I am totally fascinated by L'Avenue's work. The great, distinctive sound and wonderful atmosphere. Synthwave needs more productions like this; after years of listening, sometimes I can't distinguish one artist from another anymore, so many things are so similar to each other.

My story/review of Into The Night Crystal Waves (Intro) - Some very nice Tangerine Dream vibes! The narrator explains over the icy synths that this is a love story. The stage is set and the curtain unveils on our setting for this story... Kaleeforyna Kaleeforyna - A great transition from the sounds of the Cherry Crush EP to this. Dark yet still warm. A hint to some of the darkness that’s to come on some of the album. Sick drums on this one and some great transitions! Violence, drugs, glamour, and fake broken smiles permeates the streets. This can be seen in various imagery of the city. The fictional location of our story Kaleeforyna (a deeply fake yet glamorous place) sets the stage for our astray lover who on a random walk bumps hard into a mysterious and mesmerizing woman. She tells him “cool shades” as he helps her up from the ground. She then quickly follows up and asks “where did you get those?”. The two lock eyes and smile. Into the Night - The “love” theme of the story. I Must admit I was a bit let down by this one on 1st listen. I expected this to be the grandaddy of the album, very expansive and sinister, but was taken aback at how sultry and reserved it is. This is a grower and is becoming a favorite with multiple listens. Our lover is slowly being wooed as she asks him abruptly mid conversation “do you wanna come away with me into the night”? Osaka Drift - loving the Asian influenced sounds in this! Absolutely beautiful transitions throughout, specifically starting around the 1:50 mark. A true speed demon and expansive track! Our lost lover is being driven by the woman, through Kaleeforyna’s many diverse yet self obsessed neighborhoods. Excitement is in the air! Prom - During the drive our lover gets a scent of a fragrance not smelled since Prom and instantly the lover is taken back to that fateful day.... prom starts off hopeful in that 80s 16 candles kinda way but then a sudden shift in tone happens halfway throughout the track, a sublime dark and haunting shift. It’s killer. The lover remembers the tragic ending to a young relationship that happened on Prom night a few years prior. A set of events that has put the lovers life in a downward spiral ever since Feel Time Fade - the darkness from that time so long ago tries its hardest to creep back in and take control but there’s moments of hope and joy with this new potential lover, this woman, until time just fades away. This track being the most cinematic in tone has 2 conflicting sides that are constantly trying to take over the listeners attention. A past life of despair is juxtaposed against a life of happiness all while time continues to do what time does... fade. It’s a dope one! Her (Interlude) - after a night out on the town the woman takes the lover back to Her home. While she is away and nervously freshing up in the bathroom, our lover is gazing around taking in the new surroundings of the seducers home while in deep thought and awe of the situation of the night. Another cinematic moment that brings Dustin Hoffman’s character to mind from the Graduate for me. A standout! Closer - Gonna be upfront about this one but it’s my least favorite of the album. Just doesn’t quite hit like the other tracks for me. However it’s a nice little wine down, slower and sensual track where our lover gets to know more about the woman over drinks. Suffice to say the two are becoming closer (😆)! They are having a great time in each others company and just when you think things are about to get intimate, the woman leans in close and says to the lover, would you like to dance? Dance - I think this is my personal favorite on the album. There’s just something so addicting about the melodies here! There’s this underbelly of sadness going on underneath the driving beats that is incredible. Here the lover is apprehensively excited! They begin to dance hand in hand spinning around in the room. Flashes of thoughts from his previous breakup from Prom, the first and last dance of his life, won’t stop coming in. Things become too much and he leaves in a panic. The woman left alone saddened. Corporation - the darkest and most sinister moment on the album. A absolute banger! Weeks have turned into months with the lover losing himself to the corporate greed of the machine. Day in and day out the lover keeps busy trying to keep out any thoughts of the distant woman by pouring his soul into the cogs of the machine. Malibu Haze - Much time has gone by since the lovers nightly encounter with the woman. while on a bike ride off the Kaleeforyna coast in Malibu suddenly a beautiful haze pours in and washes away the darkness he once held onto for so long. A feeling comes rushing in. One long forgotten. A feeling of joy and excitement. A feeling of longing for touch. A smile. A touch and smile from the woman. This is a shining bouncy beacon of synthy hopefulness and joy that gets better with multiple listens. The lover realizes in this haze that he must let go of the trauma of his past to move on with his future. Reminiscent of my favorite track off Cherry Crush EP, titled Cherry Crush haha 👍🏽 Lonely Highway - THIS is such an incredible album closer. The feelings of Isolation, loneliness, and longing are all felt so hard throughout this track. The most hauntingly beautiful song on the album. Our lover, desperate to find the woman, is out along the walk path of lonely highway, the very same place where he bumped into her so long ago. As the cars pass him by he reflects on that fateful night and how he wished for things to be different. He takes a seat on the side of the road and the last sound you hear on the album is a sound of another car... except this car is the woman’s car from Osaka Drift. The lover looks up as their eyes lock once again as she passes by. The two smile once again
