I don't think he's trying to sound like Lennon and why should he? He's Lou Reed. A nod to a fellow artist, loved it.

@@Nundahmusic The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

@@maxhoe Some people are colour blind. They are not born with the ability to see certain colours. Music is kind of the same. The degree to which you can discern and appreciate good music and melody is usually determined by your genetics. Each of us see and hear things in a different way. If you like Lou then great. Arguing over who is better is a fruitless exercise.

In 1970, Lou Reed said that the Beatles were the greatest, most incredible songwriters who ever lived and that 'people cannot conceive how sad their separation is'. In other words, he enjoyed it a lot... Later his brain was affected by drugs and the new rise in the 80s as 'king of the underground' and inspiration of all those dark bands etc... John said his nonsense but he knew how to express opinions at a higher level. and not be so contradictory (Reed also changed his opinion about Zappa)

Lou kinda gave up on using his vocal range in the 80's. But he was a decent singer in The Velvet Underground days and in the 70s. Not always perfect pitch but had good vibrato and a lot of style and confidence on the mic.

Talk about destroying a song...dont get me wrong I love Lou cause he's punk, he can barely play guitar, his vocal are boring but we love him more for his attitude and the fact that he wrote some gud stuff, but shit man this is painful, if the guy wasnt already famous youd pay him to stop already. Anyone who thinks different is a twat. Lou In my mind was overrated.. but he hung out with Andy, shot heroine, wrote perfect day, so we forgive him, but man don't sing John Lennon songs PERIOD..rip

@michaelcarranza6112 I still liked Lou’s singing in his later years. Such as the New York album, and from The Raven album the aforementioned Guardian Angel is probably my favorite Lou song ever! But that’s also partly because I love songs that praise the supernatural and God. And remember the Velvet Underground’s beautiful song about Jesus. That was just a straightforward song of praise. I saw in an interview Lou said that Mother was one of his favorite Lennon songs, and he said he didn’t care much for the Beatles; and he loved Bob Dylan. Lou had an interesting and sometimes troubled life, and he wrote a lot of great songs. Off topic, what do you think of the final Beatles song Now and Then?
