It was a pleasure 🙏 listening to the programme. Sadly I realise now the version we have been made to believe is only a semblance of the truth. Many stories we read may not be the whole truth. More like fiction. Thank you for enlightening us Professor. May you be blessed with good health and happiness always. 🙏
The difference between 1971 government and the 1989 government is quite considerable to the point of having nothing much in common. In 1971, the government was just being elected and had to deal with an insurrection that they did not deserve directly due to their bad governing but the baggage that got carried over to them. Yet, Wijeweera and the leaders ended up in jail not brutally killed or burnt alive. The degeneration(cultural and otherwise) initiated by the 1977 onward government gave birth to the lowest form of politicians comparing to the ones prior to 1977. In many ways, Sri Lanka was an unfortunate country to end up with people like J R J and then the failure of 1970's socialistic government to win people's approval with their economic policies. Misfortune did play a part unless we can have good rational cause-effect theories to explain what has happened since the 'independence'.
