I wanted to thank you for the detailed instructions that helped visualize where and how deep to drill. My 2006 HSE failed to release the key too start. I followed your video and drilled in place. The #18. Fuse removal worked so the WD40 trick worked fine. It did take a little time(5 min) for the oil to work. I would recommend some paper towels below the steering column above the lower leather surround to catch the extra WD40. Thanks again for the video.

Just what I wanted to see as mine has just started to do this and the fuse 18 trick and the cable connector like yours did not work. Had to do a hard reset ( battery disconnect ) then it freed you the key to turn then clear the faults with the gap IID tool. Great vid and very timely done, thanks for sharing the info. Hope the magnet worked.

Thanks for the Video! I tried to remove the upper Part of the column to change the magnet. In the vdeo you say "will pop out of the car". I can move it a little bit, but it doesn´t pop out!? Any details here, how to remove it complete? Pull hard?

Hey Craig, I recently replaced the car battery and key battery and still no start. Besides from pulling the fuse which works once. I’m thinking it’s the ignition switch. I’m Going to order the magnets anyway but I’m getting someone to check my ignition switch and barrel and hopefully it is the problem.

Pull switch out. And remove blue tip. Pull magnet out and put back in reverse and re install. Will work like new.

I am having the same issue with mine same as yours the fuse #18 trick does not work for me either, so i am going to pull it out like you did but i want to check on the magnets before i take things a part. is there room inside electronics box to simply drive the roll pins through to release cover or would they impact electronics

I beleive there is, as you can see in the video, there is some clearance. But your best bet by far is to catch them on a metal bit and draw out in the opposite direction.

Does the upper black plastic section remove from the magnetic switch to allow for magnet replacement or must the magnet be replaced through the top?

no, theres a small c-clip which you carefully prise out with a very small screwdriver. watch where it goes, as it springs out pretty aggressively.

What is the part number on the solenoid switch? I suppose you could replace that part, right? Also, what happens if you simply remove the plunger on the part? Does it simply not lock at all then?

I'm nearly certain you can't buy the part. I looked at the time, but Sorry I don't have the part number any more. Let us know if you find it! Also, I'm betting the L322 is too smart to work without it, but I haven't tried it. I'm 0/2 on helping today sorry....

No sorry, but the magnet just slides out once the tiny c-clip is removed, i just used a very small flat head and the c-clip pinged out (be careful not to lose it)

Douglas Gibson yep, there's a few vids on YT about that. Also you can just unplug the black connector on the right hand side of the steering column for 5 seconds to reset.

Thanks Craig. I have just had the year from hell with my low mileage 06 HSE. New fan (which involves taking the car apart to replace), new air suspension compressor, new air bags on front, leaking transmission, etc. After 11 years of faultless driving and full R service history. Oh well. Now the steering problem. There must be a way to trick the system but everyone seems to talk about replacing the column or drilling the hole. LR really make it tough to love them

Some people have connected a fuse bypass switch (does the same as removing the fuse and putting it back in) to the fuse box in the glovebox. This action resets the ignition lockout successfully for some people. Did not work for me. IIRC it's connected to Fuse 18 but don't quote me, I have not done it myself. Try searching on FFRR or AULRO websites. Good luck.

Pull the number 18 fuse in the glove box and put it back in. Put your key in and wait about 5 to 10 sec then start

Здравствуйте. Помогите пожалуйста!!!! В морозы машина стояла 10 дней, запустил её, она поработала 15 мин и заглохла. Причина была что подвисли клапана, из-за этого не было компрессии, подняли компрессию слив масло с двигателя -разогрели и залили, и по не многу масла в отверстия куда свечи вкручиваются залили, акб ставили с зарядным устроиством на "Пуск" и крутили, в итоге появилась компресия , клапана встали на место, машина заработала. Но это был последний день дома и мне нужно было уезжать в командировку на 30 день, как приехал, пропала искра. Ток(питание есть на катушки, а как начинаешь крутить стартером то пропадает. Ключь зажигания вставляется и крутиться и зажигания горит но стартер не крутит. Я стартер кручу замыкая реле стартера. Датчик коленвала новый поставил. Датчики распредвала из-за них искра не пропадает, из-за них плохо запускалась бы и временами глохла. АКБ новый. Свечи новые. Думал имобелазер но тогда наверное ключь бы вообще личинку зажигания не провооачивал что включает зажигание, а может защиту и дает что искру блокирует. Помогите пожалуйста, всю голову сломал, уже не знаю что делать. Сдался я. Рендж Ровер м62,4.4

I’ve been having the same problem as everyone which is the key not turning. But it was starting once everytime I disconnect the battery or fuse. After drilling and spraying wd-40 the steering lock was making 3 clicking sounds. Which I’m not sure if I went too deep in drilling or it s**t itself. So I bought a replacement and connected it in to test it and I’m getting the one start as before. Any idea or suggestions ? Maybe ignition switch or barrel or even key problem ?

@@younisaleasawi1760 first thing. Replace the key battery!!! It's the cheapest first step. If not, let us know - you said "I replaced it" what did you mean?

Sorry I meant I bought a replacement steering column for $500 which seemed in working condition. The car starts only once after disconnecting the battery. I will replace the key battery but I’m confused now since my current steering column clicks 3 times do you think it’s because of the magnet or ???

@@younisaleasawi1760 I'm afraid there are so many faulty steering columns that it's possible your new one is faulty too..... Next step is to get your main battery checked or replaced as well (find a good battery place and they may let you put the replacement in to see if that works before you actually purchase?). I'd be replacing the magnets in both your steering columns if I was you. TEMP FIX If not, most people pull, fuse in the glovebox for 20 seconds which does the same thing as disconnecting your main battery. (dont quote me but I think it's fuse 18)

I note a new key was what you ended up needing. Does that suggest that this fix wasn’t required in the end?
Here's the new link. On the key, it is very hard to know whether I needed both or just the key, since I replaced this first. A few people have contacted me and said that this worked. It's a much cheaper first step either way!

Inside the solenoid is the magnet for the Hall effect sensor on top of the solenoid
