The way I see it is, the film just tells a story and isn't really a critique nor a love letter to anything/ anyone. It doesn't sway the audience in any particular way. That's why there are people who see them just as very passionate, hard working, dedicated people, and others who see them as obssessive, pathological assholes who don't know when they've gone too far. The film just makes us ask ourselves- and each other "where do you draw the line?" and everyone is gonna have their own answer to that. That's why I love it so much.

WTF HOW IS THIS NOT AN A+!!!?? Don't get me wrong, your review was great but this movie was truly amazing. It's one of the best musicals I've ever seen, and this is coming from a guy who usually hates musicals. Even Tom Hanks has stated that after seeing it, this is one of the best movies of the year and according to the director Damien Chazelle, this is supposed to be his masterpiece. And you never even said there was anything wrong with the film so how isn't it A+ dammit. But since everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I respect your opinion.

Having seen both of Chazelle's films now, I can safely say that my favorite and the best is *easily* La La Land. Look. Whiplash is an undeniably *excellent* film and has only a few flaws (one of my biggest being that the girlfriend storyline was, I thought, pointless, went nowhere, and felt entirely misplaced from the rest of the film). La La Land, however, isn't "merely great." It's not *only* the best movie-musical of the past 20 years *easy,* it doesn't *only* have opening and closing sequences/scenes that are *the* best pieces of filmmaking in 2016, it doesn't *only* have one of the best love stories told in recent memory (i.e. years)...it's a freaking *masterpiece* and is basically perfect in every single way (and I say "basically perfect" only because no film is "legitimately" perfect, however *I, personally* think this one is) and is now one of my *favorite* films of the decade *AND* is, I believe, one of the *best* films, period, of the past decade or more. While I cannot wait to see what Chazelle does next as a filmmaker, he has "Orson Welles-ed" himself with this movie. In that, while many (if not *most)* of his future films will be good-amazing, they will never *ever* be as good as this one (just like Citizen Kane for Welles) because *this* one is perfection! It really is an embarrassment of riches, honestly. *5 stars*

I guess I forgot to mention that: the *direction* by Chazelle is pitch-perfect, the *cinematography* is stunningly beautiful, *Emma Stone* gives the performance of her career and will, 95%, *win* her the Best Actress oscar, *Ryan Gosling* is so charming, suave, and terrific as her co-star and their chemistry is off-the-charts unbelievable, the *script* is winning, charming, and sweet, the *dance/musical numbers* are dazzling and some of the best ever put to film, the *songs* are sung to perfection by everyone and are the perfect choices for this musical, the *editing* is beyond impeccable, surpassing Whiplash, and gives us an opening and closing scene for the ages, the *production and costume design* are *so* old-school Hollywood in the very best way, it was like I was watching Singin' In The Rain or a Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers film for the first time, the *visual effects*, most noticeably in one ballroom dancing scene between our two leads, are flawlessly put in so that you don't even recognize them... I mean, what else is there to say?! Truly. Go see this film now.

I think that people who really loved this movie is because they have lived or known how Los Angeles works... I'm from Spain, and I don't connect with the story that much. It gets so much hype and great reviews because most of the critics and celebrities live there in LA. It's a good movie, but nothing else.

The reason so many people liked this movie is because they either don't really like musicals or this is the only one they've ever seen. Compared to the classics, this movie was actual trash.

I don't think that you can ever get someone back. Life happens and it keeps happening with or without any one individual. Two folks simply make the choice to either start or keep living life together or not. It works out better when that choice is not one sided. Just a thought, not a sermon.

So my roommate made me go to see this movie because of the good grade Stuckmann gave it. I had this 'gut feeling', that this was a bad idea, but we usually agree with Stuckmann's opinion on movies, so I thought "let's give it a try"... You know what? My gut feeling was right. I mean I can appreciate the visual style and nice long shots, but I have never figured out what was this movie about, I have never came to understand - or even care for - any of the characters, I did not even get most of the jokes... The hole cinema was laughing and giggling all the time and I was constantly turning my head toward my roommate "what was funny about that?", "Why do they laugh?", "I don't get it". Well he didn't get it neither. I felt like in the middle of madhouse. I was falling asleep. Sometimes paying attention to the screen was actually painful. And I find musical about musician lazy. About half of the music in this 'musical' was actually a musical performance. I say make a musical about miners. Use heavy rock. That could be fun.

Gosling isn't overrated in the slightest. You can't look at that man's insanely extensive range and try to claim he isn't an absolute master of his craft. The Nice Guys, Drive, Only God Forgives, The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, The Big Short, and La La Land, you obviously can't pin this guy down to anything. He can play anything, with the same consistent depth with each character. You have any idea how rare that is for any one man to be able to perform? Ryan is one of the best of his generation, no question.
