Love this song so much I just had to! All rights go to the owners of this sone IT IS NOT MY SONG OR LYRICS OR ANYTHING. They deserve every ounce of credit for this beauty
It's funny how you can interpret "Someone in the Crowd" as a song about either finding your true love or finding an agent for your career. Really helps drive home the theme of choosing between a love life and a career of your dreams

“Whiplash and La La Land are both very entertaining, crowd-pleasing movies, throughout their entire duration. But it isn’t until the finale when you realize just how carefully the pieces have been stacked up. Just to knock it all back down in an emotional explosion. This is what this song means and foreshadows: 1. She meets Sebastian as someone in the crowd, and that is the literal meaning of the song taken alone. 2. The producer who scouted and recruited her was really just another one of the few people in the 'crowd', and foreshadows the ending that leads to the reason she found another man and moved on, even though she(and we!) realizes that she didn't want to at all. 3. When she goes to Seb's, she and her new husband are just someones in the crowd. And for all we know, that could be the reason why she looks so engaged in thought in the last scene.

For everyone that is just listening to the music - i have had the chance to watch the movie first (not even knowing it was a musical) before listening to the soundtrack on repeat. The soundtrack album in its entirety is straight out of the movie. Having seen the movie first, the music magically brings you back to the scenes in the movie. Not sure if you just listen to the music or if you listened to the music first, it would have the same effect. But really gotta watch the movie to appreciate the music.

This movie is the most beautiful cinematic experience I’ve had in a long time. Watching this movie in a full sized theater was even more amazing. People who though that this film was too depressing or boring obviously have never been introduced to classic cinema. This move remind me of an old French film where the endings were more realistic and not the American “Happily Ever After”. The dream sequence elaborately paid homage to generous of musical film, and tied it in seamlessly. I though the plot was well developed, and in some way, relatable to everyone. I never grow sick of these songs, and similar to a good book, I notice and learn new things every viewing. In the end, this movie brings back the art piece of film, that in recent times, has been lost.

The story line is fantastic as well with an ending you won't expect. This movie I think will win the Oscar for best picture of 2016. It was also filmed in CinemaScope which is a process of very wide screen for movies in theaters that they used in the 1950,s. It will say in beginning credits Filmed in CinemaScope. This is a process they no longer use but should.

We're all here for 1:28 and 3:28 and all those similar parts. Simply the catchiest, most uplifting song I've heard on a soundtrack in a long time. That musical sting at 1:28 and 3:28 and everywhere else they use it in the song, and the movie overall, is just so positive and catchy and uplifting and happy. And SPOILER ALERT: Even later on when they split and you hear that musical sting, but it's played more slowly and in a lower register/key (I forget which, I'm not a musician exactly, just someone who played instruments for a number of years), to put a sad twist on it? But EVEN WITH THAT SAD TWIST, it's STILL UPLIFTING! Somehow, they made a depressing version of that musical sting, but still make it uplifting at the same time. So the sad twist on that hook, it still manages to have happiness embedded in it. It's like the song is telling you that yes, it's ok to be sad, but that things will get better and there's still light at the end of the tunnel. I love it.

Just came back from seeing this movie. It was great! I would have liked a few more big song and dance scenes, although I could easily count a couple very memorable ones. There just felt like a few long stretches without any. What really impressed me was the camera work. Even when the characters weren't dancing, the camera was always flowing about like it was dancing, and the song transitions were fantastic.

Yeah but too many musical numbers would have taken away from the narrative. It's a great movie because of the story, and the music pieces just topped it off to make it even better. It was just the right ratio of movie to songs

i just realised this song could be a song about a mutual breakup where one is telling the other that there are better people out there for them and they need to go find that 'someone in the crowd'

Later when I become a parent, the one thing that I would be able to boast to my children is the fact that I watched Lala Land at the theaters. Simply devastating, beautiful film. It's been about 2 monthes since I watched it, and I still remember every single moment.

Mixed feelings about the lyricists' half rhyme approach to the songs, but other than that the music is gold!
@Baribrotzer
7 жыл бұрын
That's the contemporary approach. And it really clanks to those of us who prefer and expect correct rhyme. Sondheim - an old-school lyric craftsman - wrote about once encountering a current pop songwriter who was quite careful to NEVER use correct rhyme. He thought it branded him as old-fashioned.

I really thought they'd pay homage to Hollywood classics who uses perfect rhymes in their songs like Hammerstein, Porter or yep, Sondheim. Still, half-rhymes aren't really an issue for me. I absolutely adore some of contemporary songwriters' lyricisms who get to explore interesting rhyme schemes, like Lin-Manuel Miranda or Eminem.
@Baribrotzer

They might not have been even aware of using half-rhymes like "town" and "around"- you hear that sort of thing that so much that it comes to sound natural. Or, they knew it wasn't perfect, but other considerations beat perfect rhyme: Having the words say what they needed to say for the dramatic situation, having them easy to sing intelligibly, and having them sound like something a person might actually say.
