Given that your channel is tailored to people of colour, I do think it is important that you use certain scientific epithets with greater caution. For instance, within your introduction in this video, you stated that most cosmetics on the market are manufactured by the west for Caucasian people. As a doctor you surely must be endowed with the gen necessary to elude the common misconception that Caucasian people are all "white". In fact Caucasian people would include peoples from N. Africa, Western Asia and South Asia - which would thus include your native origin. Consequently you too are Caucasian but not "white." Given your platform and focus on colour, I believe it to be an obligation almost, to deter from the spread of misinformation by providing accurately educational content.

I would really love a video on a top 10 mineral (or even chemical), non-tinted sunscreens without Denatured Alcohol, that do not leave a cast for dark skin. I have looked through all of my sunscreens and they all have denatured alcohol. And I have yet to find a readily available mineral sunscreen available in Europe that does not leave a cast on dark skin. Tinted sunscreen especially during all this mask wearing is not preferable at all.

@2015kevinf

fungirl0123456 the scientific literature just doesn’t support this. the lipids in the stratum corneum are left unchanged after the alcohol dries immediately. unless your skin barrier is already compromised or you are dry, you should not really have much problem. many products have denat alcohol that - when applied - are moisturizing to the skin. additionally alcohol denat acts acts to increase the penetration of active ingredient, which you may or may not want to avoid. for example fragrance with the alcohol can increase the likelihood of irritation. however LRP offers fragrance free options of almost every product and the UVA protection is among the highest.

Cher cher as I understand your point, I think the problem here is mostly about what they’re good at. I saw many professionals, from dermatologists to reseachers in skincare biology, as well as a lot of esthetician (mostly PoC) recommending this product, underlining the high content of denat. alcohol in the formula but clearly stating it’s not a bad ingredient within sunscreen & you should choose your sunscreen according to your skin type. Of course, denat. alcohol might be drying for the skin, which is why you need to moisturise and not use it on a very dry skin. A lot of « good » sunscreens got denat. alcohol in their formula. That’s not a bad thing, but once again, you should use a product only if it fits your skin needs and problematics.

@@Empress003 hi! I believe they recommended the COSRX aloe sun cream. Which I found to be very good. The bondi sands SPF 50 is also excellent in terms of not leaving a white cast but can be greasy if you already have oily skin or use too much. The Paula’s choice youth extending SPF is my current favourite though 😊

Thats why I dont use Eucerin products, most have denat. alcohol if not all.

Dr Dray’s confirmed multiple times that the alcohol will evaporate almost immediately after application. furthermore, she’s quoted multiple studies showing that ethyl alcohol applied very regularly at a 60% level (at least) showed little to no damage to the skin barrier... i’m sorry but i really don’t think the alcohol is sufficiently damaging to warrant all of this fear-mongering, the shaka fluid is an excellent sunscreen, easily applied, matte finish, not excessively hydrating and offers great protection.

alcohol is very important in sunscreens, particularly those containing the newer chemical filters with high molecular weight, it’s important for dispersion of the filters throughout the vehicle

please may you provide some evidence for the “instant harm” caused when alcohol makes contact with the skin? I can see that it may speed up TEWL as it evaporates (as will most liquids when evaporating off of skin) however i am curious to know where you learnt about the fundamentally damaging effects of alcohol
@pascalhumbert97

what’s more, the shaka fluid contains humectants to counter and offset (if any) loss of water caused by the alcohol as it evaporates, namely propanediol

Shes right, this brand has been recommended by several derms including dr dray and dr lim. When i looked at the products myself at the store i was confused by the ingredients and why these derms love and recommend them. Maybe they're getting paid i dont know but im glad i went with my gut and avoided them which is not hard, they are so expensive!

That’s because she doesn’t rlly know what she’s talking about. Formulation matters but just because a product uses an ingredient that has the potential to be irritating doesn’t guarantee that it will be. Almost no one has reported irritation using these products. It’s one of the most respected sunscreen brands on the market Bc it’s literally the most protective.

How did it take me so long to find this channel! Thanks for your videos Dr V! I know you have not monetized the channel because you're not looking to make money from this but KZitem seems to push monetized videos more and you might be able to reach more people if the channel is monetized. You could maybe do giveaways with the ad revenue, or donate it (or keep it, it's not my business to say what one should do with the money they make) but I think a monetized channel would probably be pushed more by KZitem and you could reach more people!

Can you do a video on how to heal the skin when you’ve burnt it/ruined your moisture barrier? My dermatologist asked me switch from cream to gel Tretinoin and I ended up with a burnt patch around my mouth and it’s pigmenting as it’s healing :(((

I used in the past the gel and cream the gel is definitely more intense, I use tretinoin 0.1%% cream at night from dermatica they do combination tretinoin and hyperpigmentation products they are online dermatologist in the UK brilliant very professional offering follow up service too, I use spf every single day very important to use spf I don't agree with the comments about the la Roche Posay I wonder what kind of Dr she is medical? La Roche Posay are brilliant products and they do mineral spf too, if you have hyperpigmentation it will be worse in heat anyway..... I used kojic acid soap it can be drying but it diminished with that once I stopped using it it came back but using spf is more important you don't want skin cancer chemical mineral spf just give me any spf it's the best

The gel is more intense and believe can be more irritating. I use the gel...it tends to pill so getting the right moisturizer is key. Go for water based like cerave pm or neutrogena hydro boost gel cream(but if u get that one get the one for "very dry or dry" skin because that one is fragrance free).
