This is the best demonstration of this process that I've seen. Thanks a lot.

Really clear explanation. Easy to understand. Thank you. I've always forget how to calibrate or work with oscilloscope since no one has teach us properly.

There were a few errors. First off, this is a simple setup, not a scope calibration. Secondly, the x10 setting DOES NOT INCREASE THE PROBE'S OUTPUT!!! It is attenuation, and reduces the signal to 10%. Third, the waveform would have shown much better in the video if the narrator had increased the trace intensity a little. And lastly, the waveform does not "go funky" if the amplification (Volts/division) is set to low. The trace becomes "free running" because triggering is lost.

Hello,I found this video very helpful,just have question about AC/DC part.You say that by keeping DC IN we will be able to see both AC and DC components of the wave.At the same time you talk about keeping DC button IN,you press AC button UP and then carry on about next part.So how it is suppose to be?Do I need to leave DC button IN or AC button UP?Thank you.

Sorry for the confusion. The DC button pressed in will limit the Scope Output to just the DC waveform. The status of this button entirely depends on if you want to see just the DC component (pressed in) or if you wish to see the AC and DC component of the waveform (left in UP position)

+Pete Vree I think you misunderstand something about this. The AC setting is what limits the scope output, by removing any DC offset in the display. The test signal is normally from 0v to +2V, because it has a 1V DC offset, and you can see that when you have the button set to DC. If you set it to AC like you have for the majority of this video, the display is "coupled" through a capacitor, applying a high-pass filter which removes the DC component, and you only see the signal as if it where varying about ground.

Hello. Very Nice vídeo. Can you teste a situation of Hight Frequency Transient with one of your less espensive oscilloscope? Like a mini-motor conect to the eletricity home net. I'm a geobiologiste and the so call "durty eletricity" it's an important matter of safety at home. I'm from Portugal and I'm already a fun. Thank you very much!!!

I'm no expert. I make the videos so I can go back and try to remember what was successful the last time in the lab. If you look at the comments below, lots of people were quite upset with this video cause I really don't know what I am talking about. I find this channel to be great for tutorials... just search his channel for "back to the basics" kzitem.info

Please tell why we calibrate the CRO?
@PeteVree
7 жыл бұрын
We calibrate in order to provide a base from which to use as a reference to make sure our readings are accurate. On newer digital scopes you can have preset settings that are available with a push of a button. For our students, the calibration provides them with an understanding of what each setting accomplishes on the oscilloscope
