Australia has become the world leader in Gas exports.. yet the population sees no benefit. The revenue goes straight into the pockets of the private corporations. Thanks to the politicians who wrote up the laws on their way out the door to go and work for the private corporations. Lobbying needs to stop. And ex-politicians making more than their pensions need to have their pension revoked.

I lived in Norway for 15 years and can testify that they have done a much better job at standing up to the oil companies and getting their fair share. In fact after the Americans hit oil in the North Sea in the 60s it wasnt long before Norway had their own public owned oil company whereby most of the profits stayed in the country. The result after decades of getting a good deal on their own natural resources is that Norway has a oil fund, which is so large it dwarfs the GDP of some countries and they self-regulate to only access 2.5% of the investment income to supplement their national budget. The end result is a society (unlike Australia) where no one is left behind. We can learn a lot from Norway.

The trouble is this message doesn’t get heard by the general public as the government media (ABC) and the commercial media hardly mention it. Additionally the general public are so stressed out with cost of living issues the 2 major parties play on this to maintain the status quo. Ignorance is bliss but we’re edging to a cliff as more and more of the general public are impacted by financial stress. Meanwhile the politicians will retire to well paid jobs in all of the industries where the lobbyists achieved beneficial financial outcomes.

Btw a few more things we can learn from Norwegians. Interest on your loan for the home you live in is tax deductible, rental income from granny flats and room letting as long as it is under 50% of your house area is tax free. These two things alone would dramtically improve the affordability of buying a home, and has worked like a charm in Norway for decades. Most new homes are built with a smaller self contained apartment suitable for a single person or a couple. This creates a lot more affordable rental options and helps home owners pay between 30-50% of their mortgage. That is something you can go to the bank with. If only ausssie pollies would look at what is working around the world we would all benefit. The reduced tax income can be recovered from removing negative gearing on investment property nr 2 and beyond

Great speech Max, all 100% correct. I know you and your followers will brand me a xenophobe because I care for the environment more than people. Immigration intake needs to be reduced to 100,000 consumers per year. Think of the carbon emissions alone. Now think of the lost hectares of native habitat from land clearing for housing and bushfires. Save a kolala, a sugar glider, any bird, a dugong. Consumers consume no matter where they are from.
@kenlydon1395

The unique wildlife is forgotten in Australia’s rush to get rich, but the Greens don’t care either , the Green Party supports Labor’s excessive immigration levels but ignores the loss of bush land and natural habitat caused by urban expansion to house all the new arrivals . Koalas are dying because the trees they need are cut down to build suburbs for more people, and the Greens say nothing, hypocrites.
