Only Tories , the party of business, undertand how to run the economy" and the Corbyn fire alarm glass they still trot out Some Tories buy all that because it suits their comfortable prejudices.) @@DellaWilliams-vo3ez Lol, have you champions for Starmer just erased the 10 pledges he made during his leadership campaign from memory? Also, I find it highly amusing how Starmer's first policy is to "control spending to stabilise the economy" -- translation, more austerity! and then I come to my favourite Labour shill channel and see tons of people screaming "GREAT POLICIES PEOPLE, THIS WILL SAVE THE COUNTRY AND GET US BACK ON TRACK!" This is a policy that will also gut all of his other policies if he sticks to it, btw, because how are you going to open up a public energy company while "controlling" spending? The two policies directly contradict one another. Increasing 40k NHS appointments a week, funded by tackling tax avoidance, lol. Sounds good on paper, but you realise over the course of the year that equates to 2million additional slots. Again, sounds good on paper, until you realise the NHS dealt with 26million appointments in JUST DECEMBER 2023 ALONE! The NHS does not need platitudes to "increase" appointments, it needs massive monetary funding to rebuild the infrastructure, create its own drugs free of private profits, and wages for doctors that are competitive elsewhere in the world. Again, it's hilarious looking at so many of you cheering this on while in the same breath criticising the Tories for failing to build 40 new hospitals, of which Starmer isn't even promising to do! You could fudge 40k additional appointments a week quite easily by just rewriting how they tally phone in queries. Then there's crap like "Launching Border Security Command" -- more spending, by the way -- to tackle gangs helping migrants cross the channel. Exactly where do you think these gangs are operating from? The country the people are trying to get to, or the country they're leaving from? Because I'm pretty certain if the migrants/asylum seekers looking to come over could coordinate with people arleady in the UK, they probably don't need a small boat to get here in the first place. This, again, is dumb culture war policy. You deal with the so-called "migrant" crisis by processing those looking to come here. When they no longer have to hire a gang to reach our shores to make an application, they'll stop doing so. But no, let's just waste everybody's time dealing with a self-made Tory problem in a manner that ensures it continues to go on to give everybody something to talk about while they're f-ing us all over financially in the background. Provide more neighbourhood police officers to crack down on the poor! Wonderful. The Tories have never sold anything like that now, have they! Fixing Brexit is not a immediate initial goal. Starting a actual border control force, a state energy company and putting the funding and incentives into providing new teaching is something that Labour can get started on right away, which was the point of these aims. Fixing Brexit will be a massive long term process, much of it will involve very detailed negotiation with the EU ( and a fair amount of diplomatic groveling). Not long term. Housing is also a multifaceted subject that will take a great deal with. Parts of it will be legislation, i.e boring to voters, but that part will be fast. The actual sorting out of the building will be far more complex. For starters Labour will have to ensure all the half build houses the Tories started are actually completed. (Just try asking a Tory how many fully completed builds there are. Not new starts. Completions.)

I can see the value in it for Labour trying to win over England, and they seem to have no problem presenting a different face for every occasion as always, the only worrying part is the one for traditional Labour voters hasn't been seen for while. this appeal to swing voters, may also be turning swing voters away. Getting voters is a good priority. However, can they convincingly keep those promises in the first two years? because THAT would be a good thing for getting votes for a 2nd term! Mind you, I believe that there should be a 4-year stint of conservative government after 12 years - just to balance out the ideology. However, after that, another 8 to 12 years of Labour might be good for the ccountry.

What a disappointment. Same old nebulous policies, economy, immigration, NHS waiting lists etc. Just like the Tory policies. I hate the Tories and everything that they represent. I know Labour have to tempt wavering Tories to vote for them. But give us something radical, something to inspire, something that would bring back the "feel good factor." This list is so bland.

My fear is that a weary, disillusioned electorate is more than a bit fed-up with 'promises', however phrased. For instance I'll believed Sir K has delivered on the NHS when, once again, I can make an appointment with my GP without having to go via the triage system, in force at my seaside town surgery since 2014. He'll need to come up with tangible delivery, AND FAST!

Only 2 and 6 give specifics, and I am sure the media will be tracking those closely. But I think these will be relatively easy. All the NHS Waiting numbers need to do is be less. Recruiting 6,500 Teachers cannot be short term delivery. Never mind getting 6,500 people qualified, it will take several years before the benefits kick in, oh, and he didn't say how long before recruiting them. How do you measure economic stability? Lots of wiggle room here, and of course takes time before comparisons can be properly made. A good idea to stay off specifics on this one. Item 3 says nothing to me. It doesn't even sound like it is a 'policy' to manage Border Control, i.e. immigration. Item 4 is what? Does this 'appeal' to swing voters? Again rather vague so wide open to interpretation. Item 5 is a bit of LOL. Almost throw away. Doesn't say how or when anything. But I take your point it appeals to a particular demographic, and I suppose they must be important enough to target. Now we shall see how it rolls out, because he has just fired a first salvo, and the opposition will be busy loading their cannon to try and damage Starmer/Labour, but these 6 pledges are general enough (at least 4) that there is plenty of wiggle room for endless debates. Which will come. Popcorn on standby...

At the end of the day in a country like Britain being a teacher or health worker serving your country, the people, or society brings little respect [other than sarcastic applause during epidemic] and risible pay. You're far better off playing about on TV or a football player or sleeping with one of them, our economy and society rewards people for these activities.

A very poor outlook. Cutting NHS waiting times? Can he not just promise to fix the NHS and staffinginstead of fiddling stats like last labour? Its a way to say he is going to outsource the work to the private sector ( without saying it) who will promptly recruit more staff from NHS and send us huge bills. A border command? we already have border agency but its massively underfunded - that's what he need to fix not the branding. economic stability? has anyone promised not to do that - except Truss? anti-social behaviour? but not more police or prisons? just more laws to make existing crimes more criminal than they were? What he should offer is very simple, 1 fix the NHS, 2 bring in a clean gov't bill to bring lobbying and MP corruption and third jobs under control, fix the election funding rules that were so widely abused in the referendum and last election, restore judiciary freedom, 3 Wrest control of news and TV media from billionaires/corporations, shell companies and non residents so that none have majority ownership. 4 We can't expect spending plans given tory financial turmoil but he should present a serious wish list in order of priorities so we know what we'll get with a promise that everyone on less than average wage when he's elected will be better off in real terms than when he started

Blair did not fiddle the NHS stats. He matched %GDP spending on healthcare of similar European economies. Waiting lists fell significantly and thr health service improved. It's the best thing he did. Spending some of that cash on PFI was idiotic in the long term.
