@@waltermh111 >So why do they keep using the same old standard? Just because a new type of oil is created, doesn't mean the existing engine will go along with the marketing BS they tell you about it. It's like the insane car commercials advertising new cars where they weld the hood shut and imply you never need to service anything. That and "lifetime fluids" that manufacturers are starting to push - yeah lifetime until the part grenades itself from lack of service. The engine is going to operate the same, have the same blow-by, same oil burning, same everything. You can't engineer a fluid and a filter to change the operating properties of the engine it runs in. The oil should be changed at intervals the engine calls for, not what some pencil head in some marketing department tells you to, who has no engineering degree or experience with engines in general. Older engines and heavily worked engines, I change at 3000 miles. Newer cars 5000 and maybe 7000 for the newest. But the older the vehicle, the more frequently the oil needs to be changed.

When I sold my 7.3 Power Stroke, dude arrived with a camera. It was a 2000 model that I sold in 2015 with 147,500 on the odometer. My Uncle had 30 Peterbilts in his fleet, they all arrived new with Rotella. He had a Peterbilt master mechanic working for him, never lost an engine. His drivers run coast to coast pulling hazmat stainless tanks,he had fifty tanks. If a driver missed a scheduled oil change/routine maintenance check they were terminated.Drivers were allowed to have this done, company paid, anywhere in the country including at his terminal. Occasionally one of the trucks would need a minor (run the overhead). All the years he was in business only one truck needed a major and Caterpillar covered it after he sent the wobbly crank in for inspection. They supplied a full major kit and 50% labor. He had previously quit Cummins/Comaparts for arguing about little shit like this and started running 550 Cats. exclusively. He ran Rotella in all his personal stuff and I too ran Rotella syn. in the 7.3. After dude checked everything he wanted to check and heard engine running he peeled off $15K cash my asking price, said cleanest engine he ever bought. Both instances above simple oil changes, frequency, and correct oil manufacturer specs, and you can do whatever you want without worrying about rotating assembly issues and worse, the engine grenading when you're dragging some hot shot in a friendly pull off.👌💀

Going off used oil analyses from Blackstone Labs every 5k miles, I change oil in my Ram’s 6.7L Cummins every 20k even though the oil is still fine yet at that point but 20k gives me peace of mind. Most trips are on highway over 100 miles long. I run top of the line Amsoil or Red Line full synthetic as well as a 2 micron bypass filtration system. It also tremendously helps that my engine does not breathe in its own excrement and she encounters no restrictions after the turbo as God intended

@Daandeslions Diesels oil gets dirtier much quicker than petrol engines. I'm a diesel mechanic, and it's just a fact. It's the nature of the fuel. Diesel is much more oily than petrol. Finally this thick black sludge started oozing out and the engine was hot. He put a paper cup under to catch the sludge coming out to show the customer. He turned the cup upside down and nothing came out. The van had a straight six engine. I had the same experience with a friend of my wife. She had a Camaro with a straight six and didn't know you had to change the oil occasionally and only added. It wasn't as bad but was veeery black and fairly thick. The inline sixes were the toughest engines.

True story from over 50 years ago. My dad was over road trucker. He was a die hard Detroit man, as was many of his friends who all owned their own trucks. They all bought new trucks in 71-72, all 318's with 90 injectors, timing advanced, etc, etc. Only difference was in the oil they all preferred to use. At a quarter million miles they all shopped their trucks together, which was common in those days; to expedite getting back on the road, as well as learning what worked and what didn't. I won't mention brands but I'll just say that the one made from pennsytucky crude was in worse shape than the one in this video and the one that was cleaner than most brand new motors come in yellow barrels. Brand did, and still does play a big factor in service interval and total life expectancy.
