After watching a recent interview with Bob Davidson (the home plate umpire), he said that he would’ve ejected him on the first pitch due to an incident the game before. But he decided not to because he knew it was his first game back. But when he hit him on the second pitch he decided to eject Lackey.

Either it was intentional, or this guy has absolutely no control over where he's putting the ball. In either case, he's a danger to the batter and an ejection is perfectly reasonable on the umpire's judgment.

First two pitches of the game a pitcher, no matter how fresh off the disabled list, doesn't miss that bad. He's a major league pitcher. You can never convince me a major league pitcher will miss that badly first two pitches in the game. If this maybe happened 4-5 innings in the game when the pitcher is getting more fatigued, then I would understand and chances are he is not thrown out. First two pitches in the game? Obvious intent, get out of here.

It looked to me that the pitcher was really off on his throwing, but I don't blame the ump this time for ejecting him. Intentional or not, he was out of control.

I believe that most umps would have issued a warning before ejecting. Just because they can eject them without a warning doesn't mean they should. It was a bit much. A warning would have stopped it.

Having met the family, gotta say getting tossed two pitches in couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. Lackey reminds me of Andy Benes, did the same thing in a minor league game. Both of them are full of it.

we had waited 6 wks for his return and he went and did that. pretty pissed. kinsler had stared at a HR off him a year or so earlier, no shock. balkin' bob or not, good thing Lackey took a walk at the end of the year; 4 years later and if there's any doubt that Lackey throws at ppl...well, there's not.

You'd be suprised. The Rangers and Angels don't like each other. I think they were trying to hit him on purpose 1) Catcher set up inside both times. He got thrown behind and then hit. 2) If he was really trying to get a good start going, he would throw outside to a guy like Kinsler because those are the pitches he can't hit very well.

Can't blame the umpire for this call. Even if it weren't intentional, if the guy's control is so bad that the first pitch goes above the batter's shoulders and the second hits the batter's chest, then he was a danger to everyone he faced. Why wait for trouble?

You don't throw behind someone, then hit someone without it being intentional. This was obviously intentional not a "control" issue. If I were the umpire I would have done the same thing. You have to maintain control of the game as well as keep players from getting injured.

Common sense dictates most things in life. The first two pitches of the game were obviously thrown at kinsler, and, if that wasn't enough, add the two team's recent history with each other...thus, an ejection was warranted

thebenflorance All pitchers coming back from the DL undergo rehab training while they're out,including letting them pitch Minor League games. No club would bring back a pitcher unless they were sure he's 100%. Now it's not me to tell whether these two pitches were intentional or not, but if I was the umpire, I'd throw him out too. Nobody misses THAT bad twice in a row. You mess up, you adjust, you move on. In other news, props to the catcher for grabbing that first pitch!

and of course I have two pretty strong rebuttles for those rather weak points. 1) I'm not sure how the catcher setting up inside helps your argument? if anything it shows he did it on accident. He just went a little too far inside and missed his spot. 2) If Kinsler knows he can't hit outside pitches, he'd be expecting them. In which case an inside pitch could be better. you have no idea what their approach to Kinsler might have been that day
